Embarrassing.
"They've got a song about you Erling"
"Great, what is it?"
"Well, it mentions your name, then a laughingly references a plane disaster that killed over a twenty people, including one of City's greatest ever players"
"Right..."
After being almost undroppbale for two years player loses game time over following two seasons
Player wants more time/starts and backs his own ability to contribute in biggest games
Manager understandably refuses to commit to promise of game time/starts in biggest games - he has a lots of...
Captain for almost a decade leading a team that won:
4 x PLs
4 League Cups
1 x FA Cup (plus 1 not as captain thiugh he was captain in the semi v United)
2 x Community Shield
Not only that, despite being a defender he scored crucial goals:
Winner v United in 2012 to set up title win
Clincher v...
A bit harsh IMO. Thought he was a good midfielder, but his supposed 'versatility' ended up with him playing mainly in defence from the early 90s. I felt this suited his game less, and yes, he was caught out a fair bit because of positioning and lack of pace at full back.
My dad seat counts online...and proceeds to give me updates, even after my eyes go glassy.
I was going to say that he needs a hobby. Though perhaps I should take solace in the fact that there are a few online hobbies even more distressing than this.
Apologies for being a know it all on Philips! He scored the only goal in my first City game (v Boro, March 1985) and so was my fave player, and after he left I followed his career avidly.
Eh?
He left City and won the FA Cup with Coventry the following year! He then went to Norwich and was part of the side that finished 3rd in the PL. Then went to Forest, won promotion (as player of the year) then qualified for, and played in, Europe by finishing top 3 or 4 the year after.
His...
I'm not sure where this idea of him being a mercenary came from. He signed a five year contract with City, which he saw out being probably our most consistent player over that period. Another club came in for him offering him more money and better prospects of success (this was at the end of...
Whether you like it or not, for someone who lived most of their life in a climate where it is warm for 9 months a year and the associated lifestyle, it can be important. It's not *the* most important factor; if it was he would move back to Portugal...and he's not going to move back to Portugal...
All a question of money. Can Barca or Real get enough (from their 100% kosher revenue streams) and is there the interest to spend a lot of it (£85m +) on him.
Reading between the lines of his (respectful) statements and things that came out last year it is clear that he would be open to that...
Top man. I can forgive his tenure as Chairman too, I don't think anyone relied quite how big our problems were...or how much money clubs would need to compete after the PL explosion.
Not quite forgiven him yet for the Alan Ball appointment though!
Agreed.
Just think it's a little bit of revisionism after we didn't get him to say that he is past it/not that good. He is fantastic.
I'd still rather have Haaland though. And they'll still win nowt. But they'd probably finish top 4!
Yeah, 1997/98 was probably the worst. Soul crushing, every week.
Bury. Oxford. Vale. Crewe. County.
Another new player. A new manager. A new owner. Hoping that one, despite all the evidence to the contrary, will be our saviour.
But no. Steadily and progressively getting worse with no end in...
