In my biography of Peter Barnes I quote Ken Barnes from an interview I did years earlier. There’s no doubt he blamed Niven and told him so at the time.

    Alexander Sports

My first City kit came from Donaldson’s in Hyde. My dad knew Donaldson’s from Gorton and years later I discovered that Donaldson was an ex-City player. Lots of former Lancs CCC or City players opened sports shops including Billy Meredith.

    Alexander Sports

It was owned by Eric Alexander and he bought it off Roy Clarke. It had been a combined sports and grocery shop - yeah, I know it’s an odd combination!- when Roy and Kath Clarke owned it. I interviewed Eric and Kath about their times owning the shop in the past. Eric owned it for most of the...

    Vinnie Jones’ 5 Second Yellow

It’s 32 years today since Vinnie Jones got a yellow card after only 5 seconds while playing against City. He later got sent off. It was one of the oddest starts to the game I‘d experienced at the time. We knew about Jones’ reputation but this seemed way over the top. Reid was his victim. I...

Ted, or at least someone who goes by his name, still comments on games etc. He often posts comments/his memories on my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/GaryJames4

Middlesbrough in Utd shirts v City

The best (or worst) was the Monday after we’d lost to Blackburn in the FAC qtr final… suffice to say someone was unhappy at the way fans reacted to the defeat and said we should be happy we’d got to a qtr final. Someone else then piped up that our expectations were all wrong and that maybe the...

Middlesbrough in Utd shirts v City

It was a pure merchandise promotion. I was in the HoD meeting the following Monday when a few of us were critical. Maybe one day I’ll write about those meetings. Lots of odd stuff used to happen!

Yes - twice. I’ll get an article posted about this on my site at some point. Thanks for reminding me.

Yes we did. You’d think after the first Spurs would think to pack their other kit, but no they didn’t!
