If you dont know what 'the hills' is. Find out. Watch it without trying to kill yourself. Then find out how much the 'actors' are paid per episode for that.

Football's entertainment. The wages reflect this.

Thats always my argument to people who complain about what footballs get paid, they never have an answer when i ask the difference between a player getting millions and a film star getting millions for a film or a pop star getting millions for a record deal.

A lot of other sports are there where the players are paid a lot less or nothing at all. The high pay reflects on our players poorly, not just ours, but just players in general, their attitude is poor, they've no commitment, no loyalty, no heart. Modern day spoilt brats. No character, no heart.

These guys get paid in a day, more than I make in a year I'd say, they get paid more than the likes of cops and doctors, or your soldiers, who's average pay I've found out there the other day, and it's a bit of a disgrace, espeically if they do what your lot are asking them to do. But anyway.

Giving someone that much money, they wont fight for it. They wont fight for anything.
They'll never be in the position where your heart is in your mouth when you know your loosing and the whole team knows, and there's a collective feeling that it can't end now, or at half time after running your socks off, and be called in and given the talk that we didn't fuckin work as hard as we did and as long as we did to loose now. We've our 9-5 to go to, they've the cushion of all that money, they've nothing to push them, for us it's pride, it's the passion to fight for it, to avoid the agony of loosing, and if we're honest, to make the awful winter training count for something.

With that much money, you wont fight for anything, ever. And that is what's so wrong with half these players, they dont' have the stomach for the fight and they don't have the desire because they are too self obsorbed, and to comfortable with the rest.

The fear of loosing. The fear of failure, of not bringing the cup back..again. It doesn't affect them, because they at the end of the day, don't really care, at the end of the day, they go home with their pockets full, whether or not we go home empty handed.

A friend told me this story before, John O Shea was in a pub in Waterford in the summer with a few of his friends and a Waterford hurling game was on, and they won, and at the end some lad turns around to him and says, you know John you'll never truely earn the heart and respect of the people of Waterford and he replies, true, but you'll never earn 80,000 a week..(or whatever it was.)

It was only a bit of craic and a joke. But the point is still there. Do 90% of them really care at all, at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, it is all about the money, and which club they play for, once it pays well, is now a days, irrelevant.

They get paid that money, for the simple reason, there is only a few people on the entire planet who can do what they do. Get over it.

You seem to hate football to such an extent that I don't understand why you even bother following it anymore. You spend pretty much every post moaning and whining about this or that and comparing football unfavourably to other sports.

Here's a groundbreaking theory for you: If those other sportsmen/women were any good at a sport that is popular with millions and millions of people, they'd earn the same as footballers do. Top-level basketball players, American football players, baseball players, golfers, boxers, tennis players all earn comparable sums to footballers because the sport they play is hugely popular. So some poor hurling player or a swimmer has to make do on a fraction of the money? So what, so do I, because like them, I'm shit at all of the above-mentioned sports.

Is £160k a week obscene? Of course it is. But so was £20k a week. If it annoys you that much, may I politely suggest you just stick to watching rugby.

Hey, it was started by the Rags, and we are now able to pay them top whack because of our owners. It's not right, but it's the market.

Agree totally. It's mad. The bubble WILL burst sooner rather than later when the collective (ie. clubs, fans, TV) have had enough. A level playing field will return & we can all sleep easy. Having sais that if anyone wants to offer me tha much I'd bite their f*king hand off.

I hope no one offers me 160k a week,I will just say no thats an obscene amount of money to pay me .
Like it or not,and although I dont I accept it, its the market and at the moment the market is that high

it's all just numbers, the average bloke gets £400 a week so is £10k a week also ridiculous? Where do you draw the line?

I'm with OP its pretty sickening that he's on that much a week. I think its quite clear he's only come because of the money we can offer. I know he wanted to stay in Spain but he'd be a fool to turn that much money down to stay in another country for a few years of his life.
I just wish we could find the odd bargain for 8-9M to balance all this superstar hunting we're doing.

This is what confuses me. 8-9 million a bargain? Most people now see outrageous sums as reasonable but kick off about higher amounts. All just varying levels of the same insanity imo. The days of footballers costing genuinely reasonable amounts and earning genuinely reasonable amounts has long since passed, people complaining because the amounts have shifted up another notch is facile, the damage was done years ago. Anyway, it is the owner's money, he can do what he likes with it and I'd rather watch David Silva than Dabo. A bit simplistic, I know, but pretty much the bottom line for most people, I would imagine.
