£160,000 a week is *&%"ing ridiculous!

as unpalatable as it may be , the sad fact is offering the highest value contract is the main reason , if not the only reason players are coming to City ...

its a little hypocritical for some fans to boast about being the richest and then in the same breath moan about foreign mercinaries

£10m per annum for scoring a hat-trick in front of the Stretford End, The Kop, and The Shed End and/or six points off any of those, and it's money well spent. Good value! The Good Sheikh knows how to spend his money without getting ripped off.

£160K a week obscene no
£16K a week obscene no, just a 0 missing

The figures are all obscene, but what is really obscene is that they don’t have to earn it.

Give them all a basic wage and really good win bonuses, maybe then they will try a lot harder for the money and we will get hungry players who want to win as much as the fans do.

Comparing it to how much top tennis or golf stars earn is a waste of time, those guys only earn the big bucks by winning things.

Tax laws have also changed, Instead of him paying 40% tax its now 50, so you have to pay more to put them on similar money after tax.

Tyson earned £20million for biting Holyfields ear in one fight that he was shit in, wasn't going to win and didn't win.

Noel Gallagher "became a millionaire four times in one week" from the single 'Wonderwall'. IMO it's one I their worst songs!

Michael Jordan earned $90million in one season (1997-8), that's nearly $1.8million a week!

Makes footballers look like paupers!

I do not care how good they are or how much money the club's owners have. Paying players £10 million a year is absolutely fucking outrageous.

It is going to ruin football by putting success in the hands of a very rich few and taking the game so far away from normal people that it may as well be played on the fucking moon.

certain unscrupulous clubs used to give 'em free cars and their ma's a snidey washing machine when there was a wage cap in order to get the best players and have a better chance of winning silverware. they said that would ruin football too. as our froggy friends say 'plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose'. or different era, same old shit.

I personally have no problems with the wages that the footballers get...and remember it's only the top 10% that get the fabled £10 million a year - however here's food for thought -

Iain Coucher (Boss of Network Rail) - who can't get the trains running on time - £1.45 million this year

Eric Daniels (Chief Exec of Lloyds TSB) - you know the bank that was bailed out by our money and who now won't give you a loan or a mortgage - £6.2 million last year

Now these are joke figures - when was the last time that 48,000 people applauded them? And please don't start on the nurses' wages - just look at what the Chief Exec of the NHS Trust gets - now that's obscene

I agree, it's ridiculous, should've offered Silva a YTS. By the way, your alarm's going off and there's some coffee that needs smelling.

Remember reading a letter once. "My wife cant stand football as they are all over paid, her favourite sport is Formula one" Yes it is an obscene amount, then again so is 10k a week. Was in the barbers today and whilst having my normal football chat he was telling me a young lad from Tyldesley has just been given a contract at Notts County age 19 on a reported 3k a week. Again that is an obscene amount. As long as it does not effect what I pay for my season ticket. I dont really care. we would all take the pay if we could???

-- Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:38 am --

Agree that it is fucking ridiculous but we didn't start the fire. There are umpteen things you can blame before you get anywhere near City.
