Well, I could think about why people don't like to offend Hamburg supporters: Because they don't want to be put together with those redfaced boozers wearing England jerseys and shorts dancing drunken on the streets and thinking they would offend the Germans by mentioning the war.

To be honest nobody from Hamburg who didn't live in those days gives a fuck about a drunk Englishman singing "Ten German bombers". They would rather laugh at you than feeling to be offended. Imo people only show their low level of intelligence if they really think they could offend Germans under 70 by singing that one. Not to mention that it's not very creative.

By the way: Hello, I'm from Hamburg and my granddad was in the Wehrmacht and a nazi idiot in addition. He would hate me if he was still alive. I don't give a fuck about German bombers and love to offend people wearing the colours of Hamburg's opponents.

Some people's conception of German people as a whole is ridiculous - if you believe some fuckwits, you'd think they were all arrogant, unfriendly, and get up at the crack of dawn on holiday in order to nick all the sunbeds. The reality however couldn't be any further from the truth.

The reality, which would probably scare the life out of the kind of fuckwit that sings this song, is that the Germans as a people are about as close as you can get in the world to the English.

And to those of you that are saying it's banter; banter is a two-way thing. I jokingly take the piss out of you, you jokingly take the piss out of me in return. How on earth are the Germans meant to respond to this childish bollocks in a jokey way? In case you don't know, the Germans are deeply embarrassed and even ashamed of their involvement in a war a lifetime ago. How the fuck is singing about such a subject simply "banter"? It'd be like taking the piss out of your mate cos his dad was a serial killer; no normal, right-thinking person would do it.

Well said DB! I work for a German comapny here in the US and i also find them very embarrassed about WW2, especially the older generation.They are a humble and very genuine race and i personally really enjoy their company and humility, we could learn a lot from them... again imo! The main banter we enjoy is all football themed and mainly around 1966 and that goal which was certainly over the line..........cue loads of alternative view to take the minds away from such a political nightmare this thread could become!..........but it goes without saying that they are the worst "sunbed stealers" in the world, via said towels of course :-)!

Another reason not to sing it my view, war, death misery destruction on both sides we should respect the dead, forgive and move on. We haven't been at each other throats for 60 years there are loads of songs we could sing more in tune to supporting city to me this is a no brainer.

in a way these people are not the main problem, it is the 'sheep' around them that get caught up and before they know it are singing along with them without thinking.

when i was a teenager i got caught up singing 'no surrender' when i didnt really understand what it meant, later when i understood the feeling behind it i was embarrassed. but to this day you will still see young idiots singing along ignorant of the relevance!

maybe history repeating is just a part of life! you will always get ringleaders causing agro.

i dont think many people get the irony of the song tho. lots of those fans will be singing their hearts out there and have a german car parked in the drive at home, or a kitchen appliance, or a mobile telephone, or a pen or a thousand other items made in germany and sold in the uk. they just dont see that the germans (quite rightly) will be sat back laughing at them and their small minds.

there is a saying that goes "to be beaten by an opponent in battle shows they are stronger, but to be beaten by economics shows they are smarter". chew on that bone for a while!

the atmos is going to be intense. hopefully. chances are their will be a few of the hamburg fans singing insults. and the same will be done by city. and the 10 german bombers song will probably get bashed out. there is a time and place for it. and the time and place is at football when your playing a german team, in our most important game of the season.
