At the moment he is not showing any signs of being close to a 100 million pound player. Wether or not that huge pice tag is weighing him down or not I don't know. He is a very "safe" player at the minute. Too predictable. Carries the ball then stops it with the outside of his right foot and passes it inside.

Hopefully he settles in and justifies the price tag.

The price tag relation to player's performances is just another 'in vogue' term invented by journalists and pundits since Abramovic took over Chelsea and than it went crazy after our own takeover. It is completely meaningless and is only used to create some negative context towards the player and the club - and we know which one(s). Would Jack's performances for us so far be judged to be any better or worse if we payed £20 mil for him.
PSG are letting Mbape go free, so he is worthless? Or Pedri's release clause is €1 billion, draw your own conclusion.

And back to his performances, Pep seemed pleased with his game after substituting him.

the goal should have been his. the last thing we need right now is another player that needs 25 shots to 1 goal.
Agree wholeheartedly with this, which is why the board need to be ruthless in the summer and bring in a world class striker.

But, Jack wasn't renowned as a goal scorer when we signed him (that doesn't excuse him missing an open goal from four yards, he'll have been as infuriated as the rest of us; but then one of the greatest players of his generation did exactly that against Norwich yesterday, it happens), and as such his goal return isn't a criterion we should hold him to. I said it last night but it bears repeating, he's going to need some fine tuning. He's currently a Pep student, and whilst he's learning we have to expect some modest performances amongst the odd stardust performance. I refuse to believe the most erudite, analytical manager of his generation spent a record fee on Jack Grealish on a whim. One of the biggest issues Pep will be facing is just where he sees Jack's best position, but our manager sees him day in day out and I'm confident he'll reach the right conclusion.

Until that day comes, everyone needs to remind themselves we're top of the league, once again delivering beautiful football, and perchance afford our record signing a little short-to-medium term leeway.

There's four Wolves players between Grealish and the nearest City player in front of goal. A left footed cross in that situation gets cleared easily nearly every time.

I don't see any problem with it.
This is very, very clearly a feature not a bug. Pep would prefer to keep the ball, and demands that from his players. You would have thought United away would have highlighted this! Maybe this will change when we get a 9, maybe it won't, but we are currently top of the league and in the best position we have ever been into consistently get to the latter stages of the CL. No point blaming players for following orders.

he never was a goal machine so people expecting him to up his goal stat numbers are gonna be sad.
he scored 2 goals in 11 PL starts, well he is kind of on track with his own personal best which was 14 goals in 60 starts for Villa last two seasons. If he ends up starting 30 games for City, I expect him to close on 5-6 goals.

Problem is I find that not enough if he plays most of his time at left of the front three. It wouldnt be enough from Sterling who was dog shit last season, criticized all over the place, rightly so, playing from left of front three and still delivered 10 goals in PL. For Grealish the the upper limit is much lower, he is not a prolific wide forward.

He would need to balance it out by outrageous assist numbers, and creating chances stats which might not happen until we have a proper number 9 because lets be honest for a creative player to look up and see Sterling or Jesus in the box who both need 7 good chances for 1 goal is not easy.

Probllem is at Villa he was give absolute free role and unlimited licence to do whatever he wanted and faced maybe a parked bus every 8th PL game at City none of that applies.

Exactly how does he justify his price tag and to whom?

Start producing goal and assist numbers that are even somewhat close to any of Mahrez, Jesus, Sterling, Foden or Bernardo. Right now his output is around Rodri's level. I don't really understand why people think it's asking too much of him to be offering more going forward than our DM.

The other poster mentioned goals and assists were a good way to measure a midfielder, I was replying to him.

If you’ve got an issue with the word “midfield”, take it up with him.

Assists are probably the most overrated statistic in football. Paul Pogba has the most assists in the league this year, has he been the best in his position? Has he fuck.

Sané got more assists than David Silva in 2017/18, is that evidence that he was better than him? Is it fuck.

A bunch of Sané’s assists were 10 yard cut backs under no pressure to a free man in the box. What the “assists” stats won’t tell you is that David Silva had drawn three men out and squeezed the ball through the eye of a needle to create the opening for Sané.

But there’s no “stat” for that. It’s just the FIFA / Fantasy Football generation who think the pass immediately before the goal is the only one that matters. Real football doesn’t work like that.

Grealish isn't scoring or getting assists or making any of the passes before the assist. He's doing nothing. He's getting the ball, turning onto his right foot and passing it back. Occasionally he'll miss a chance or put a cross right on the head of an opposition defender. Why it's unfair to criticise him for playing objectively badly is beyond me.

We simply havent found his best postion in the team , Pep has tried a couple, left wing and false nine and neither are working , at Villa he was a left sided number ten picking the ball up on the half way line beating a couple of players and then passing or winning free kicks. The difference is Villa played more in transition and the opponnents were stretched were as we play against ten men behind the ball constantly.
No idea of the solution that's for Pep to work out , he wanted Grealish and he is clearly a supremely talented footballer and when Pep does find the solution as he has with so many other players Grealish will ram his critics words down their throat , but it could be another twelve months before we see the best of Jack.

It also appears to some to be asking too much to allow him time to settle.
