He’s hardly going to say anything different is he? He’s hardly going to say he’s been disappointing is he? The lad’s confidence is on the floor. What Pep has said is par for the course. He’s going to keep getting asked too. Until Grealish ups his game..

Which there’s no reason he shouldn’t.
that is a funny distraction you are trying to make there. Pep pretty clearly says he his happy with what Jack is doing within the team. He even goes on to say that we would not have won the CL group or 1st in the PL without Jack's contribution. He directly says he is happy with what Jack is doing and does not want to make any changes to the way he is playing. Do you think he is lying about all that? also Pep playing him at most times in the first 11 seems to disprove your theory. It seems to me Jack is carrying out the exact instructions that pep is giving him.

In what way does grealish not have the skill set to play as an 8.

Pros:
1) holding onto the ball and not losing it under pressure
2) Great short passing
3) Best carrier of the ball in the PL
4) Slowing down or increasing the pace of the game depending on the situation. Game control

Cons:
1) Defensive positioning
2) Physical conditioning

Defensive positioning and physical condition can be improved. If you have a holding player in there he can cover grealish defensive defficencys.

Grealish has all the attributes and there is no reason he can't get to the level of de bryune and silva.

He played as a no 8 for villa só he proved he can do it.

Physical conditioning is a strange one with Grealish.

When he first joined, Pep specifically highlighted that his weight and condition were ideal. He's not noticeably changed size or shape since then. And for Villa - OK, he had a few games out most seasons with injury, but every match he was fit for, he played, and almost always 90 minutes. So he's never been unfit.

And yet, we are seeing him huffing and puffing a bit on the pitch for us. I suspect it's a combination of the sustained intensity of how we play (vs bursts of activity at Villa) and potentially playing twice a week rather than once. If he's a good trainer we should see him get more able to cope with it as time goes on.

Might also have to accept though the limitations of his body shape. His lower body is - seemingly genetically - huge compared to the rest of him, and it must take a lot of energy to keep those legs going. He's roughly Hazard-shaped (and bears no small resemblance in his play), but hopefully we can help him avoid similar fitness issues.

Yes, I think he’s lying. He will want all his players to do better. Especially those underperforming like Grealish.

Pep is long known for being stubborn with some players and tough on others.
He treats each player accordingly.

Sadly, and it’s not all on Grealish by any means, but we were flying in his absence, our best period of form this season.

Saturday, we were back to being a little one paced and predictable vs Wolves, even when they were down to 10 men.
We’ve not seen that in the games Grealish has missed.

If you really think Pep is going to come out and be anything but positive about Grealish then I think you know you’re clutching at straws.

Pep is always positive about his players, but you can tell when he’s really happy with a player, he really goes to town. Describing Sterling as “sensational” or Bernardo as the leagues best player.

Our best result in the CL came without Grealish, we lost two games out of the 5 he started and he was dreadful in Brugge.

So again, I’d suggest that Pep’s just trying to keep his chin up. Rightly so.

His game control would have to be just about his weakest trait, or it is for us. And I have to ask, how is he the leagues best ball carrier? He’s about the 5th best in our squad..

He’s a talented lad with a long way to go, he’s at the right club with the best coach in the game. But he’s got a long long way to go.

Yep spot on

The criticism is down to goals. We see the same with sterling. When the latter was on form he was scoring regularly. The mistakes he made each game was overlooked. The same logic applies to Grealish. Once he starts scoring a few goals the narrative will change. Fortunately for him, he is in a team that will continue to give him chances.

I still believe we have a very good player on our hands. Once he is fully integrated into the club both mentally and tactically he will flourish.

He needs time and patience. Imo he is doing an awful lot right when he plays but missing chances with a £100m price tag is going to be highlighted relentlessly. Everyone outside of city wants him to fail.

Another poster compared him to Hazard and I think that is spot on. We are in for a treat once it clicks.

Let's hope you're right, we all want him to succeed
