Listening to Pep's post match conference, you can see he had specific instructions to Jack to not pass the ball, and go for goal.

He even mentioned his body language lately clearly choreographed the intention to pass, and to go for goal. He didn't score but Pep was very happy with his performance.

I think Phil LW with Jack as a left sided 8 would work well, although that limits Phil to have to play so wide, but there is freedom for them to switch at will.

The best solution for me is either get a better left back (Gomez is not good enough right now imo), or get Jack a fast left footed winger (Borges) he can pass to or just hold the width for him.

He made me laugh when I watched the lads coming out for the second half. He pours water from his bottle down the back of Bernie's neck from behind.

Doesnt work well with Cancelo to his left as they come in each others way. Either needs an over lapping FB if he is to play on the wings or needs to come inside as left sided CM and Foden on LW.
He was aggressive in looking for his shot in first half but when Pep took off Rodri and Gundo who for some reason both looked like they were running in mud he moved Palmer wider and slipped Jack inside where he became a monster, driving the ball, off the dribble, checking back demanding the ball. He looked like Villa Jack. He's a left sided attacking CM, not a wide touchline guy. If he's ever going to become a consistent contributor on this team it will be as an attacking mid, not as a wide forward. JMHO.

Much better tonight and looked like the player he was at Villa.

Keep it going, have a great WC and come back and help win us titles.

Another top performance. Wolves, United, this one. Been a MOTM a few more times, too.

He's having a strong season; what happens on the pitch and who wins the game matter more than G/A to me, and there's no doubt in my mind that Jack is part of our best XI if we want to win the games and get the points right now.

Grealish - Haaland - Foden is the one. I like Pep's comments about his body language; that kind of thing will help.

Shackles off and we have a brilliant MOTM performance.

He was a joy to watch last night,a player who is a born entertainer.

Really good game from him.

Great to see him taking the shot a bit more rather than always just recycling the ball when there's nothing else on. Drew a couple of good saves from Mendy - another night, another keeper, playing like that he'd score at least one.

More importantly, I really loved seeing him driving forward with the ball. When we talk about him as an elite ball progressor, that's what we mean. His straight-line pace without the ball is kind of middling, but the speed of his dribble is excellent and combined with his strength and the quality of his touch he was cutting through Chelsea like a train.

I think we saw a little more of his riskier passing game than usual, too. That little reverse pass to Gomez had me on my feet.

He's incredible with an overlapping left-back. It doesn't even have to be a world class left-back - we saw him at Villa with Targett, who's solid but not a world-beater. Our problem is that Gomez is exciting going forward, gives Jack what he needs in an attacking sense, has a lovely pass in his locker too - but right now doesn't have the defensive quality to be playing regularly in this team.

So we need a solution that gives Jack space to drive up the pitch centrally with the ball. We could buy an improved left-back, or get Cancelo working on the overlap (and accept that nullifies some of his threat) or else get the left-sided 8 drifting wide at opportune moments and leaving that space for Jack - I think we've been working on that with Bernardo and it's no coincidence the better Grealish performances this season tend to have come more often with Bernardo playing next to him.
