Mate Souness knows what he's talking about, he's been a very successful manager and player. You may not like him, but he knows football.

As for Gundo, he's in an entirely different ballpark to Jack.

Also Pep is no longer picking Jack or even using him as a sub.

We badly needed a goal at Wembley, Pep did not put Jack on.
Its just the time of season, Pep gets very rigid in his selection though admittedly I was surprised to not see him appear but we was chasing the game and that doesn't suite the way we've been using him.
I'm not claiming he's on Gundo's level but there was a time when Gundo was used in a less offensive way and people were questioning his ability to start for a top six club let alone us, then a season or two later he's world-class, was that due to him improving ability wise or was it because his role changed? If you watched him at Dortmund you'd know the answer. Just like Grealish you liked him at Villa did you think he was to ponderous in possession there? He bloody wasn't but he was preforming a different role.
Souness was a fantastic footballer, Im not to sure how much he knows about football especially concerning the modern game I think alot of his opinions are still assuming the games not changed since 1990.

Pundits are paid to court opinion; Souness is informed, but also has a job to do.

Fans since the dawn of time have loved the explosive winger who can take people on and deliver for fun. Grealish doesn't only compete against other players, he competes against what swathes of fans want to see in a wide-man.

He brings something else to the table, and some will never appreciate it, but just had a difficult season. With him in the squad, we became the most successful team in a single season in English football history. I enjoy watching him play and watching the opportunities he creates for others.

With a small ‘useable’ squad we cannot afford passengers . In the run in Pep exhausted the main 13 players. The fact that Nunes and Grealish were not used at that critical time is good enough reason to be ruthless and find replacements.
Pep chose a very small number of players for that period. But, over the course of a season, that could never be the case.

Still find the hate on Grealish very strange / strong. Certainly seems to go past just not rating a player and comes across as a personal vendetta at times. He's clearly had a poor season and he will be the first person to admit that but nobody knows what has happened in his life this season that could of played a role in that. Nobody is in a position to say how things should and shouldn't affect him. He's clearly somebody who can be quite emotional, things do get to him more than most and he gets in his own head. A lot of criticism seems to centre around him basically being a "boring" player for us but I'm not really sure that's on him. Pep has taken a player that was a real bums of seat player at Villa and asked him to play a role that is the complete opposite to that. He will never be the player to beat 3 man and get to the byline when he's being asked to keep the width and the ball against a low block. The few bits of freedom he has been allowed centrally though has shown how easily he can beat a man in that area of the pitch. Pep isn't necessarily wrong in that either, it clearly worked as he was key in winning the treble. To sell him now would be mental to me and I'd guess not many people at the club would want him to go either. The only real question mark is should he want to leave to try and get that freedom Villa allowed him and become the main man again.

Unless I’m missing something, it doesn’t mention effort, but that his performance in training was disappointing. That could well mean he wasn’t able to achieve the standard set for whatever reasons there may be.

No but Yaya nearly burned all of his bridges at the club off the field. Every person reacts differently to difficult situations, that’s blatantly clear.
The thread is a player performance thread, we are talking about the players performance. I don't give a fuck about the bridges he burned, he was a game changer here and has cleared up the issue about his silly agent making those allegations, besides its not a communist club, he can say what he wants.

This is elite sport, he may well have had some issue off the field but he has to deal with those like we all do.

A certain David Silva had a horrific situation with his premature born son. He was far away from both mother and child as they were in hospital, when he was with them in Spain he was unable to train, yet he turned up on matchday and was magnificent.

I don't understand why people say Grealish is hated, where is this hatred?

I think we have every right to question his performances this season, he's been at the club 3 seasons, his first season was hugely underwhelming, the second excellent after a average start and the last season poor.

At 100m and our record signing and on 300k a week, should be not be doing a lot more?
