Souness is full of shit, Jacks a quality player and similar to when people used to question Gundo, they're failing to see he's performing a specific role in a specific way not necessarily flattering for the player but beneficial to the team.
Souness is and was a superb pundit, he talks straight and what he says about Grealish is spot on.

You argument about specific roles is always used to defend him, yet we have seen from Doku that Pep allows and encourages a player to take chances and take on his man in the final third.

Grealish playing as a wide front man in this team HAS to create and score more.

Jack of 22/23 is a quality player and played the role you described brilliantly. Jack of 23/24 has not been a quality player and needs to up his game big time if he wants to keep playing for City. There was a huge drop off in performances for whatever reasons, but he needs to get back to what he was in 22/23 if he stands a chance of playing regularly.

This is elite sport, he may well have had some issue off the field but he has to deal with those like we all do.

A certain David Silva had a horrific situation with his premature born son. He was far away from both mother and child as they were in hospital, when he was with them in Spain he was unable to train, yet he turned up on matchday and was magnificent.

I don't understand why people say Grealish is hated, where is this hatred?

I think we have every right to question his performances this season, he's been at the club 3 seasons, his first season was hugely underwhelming, the second excellent after a average start and the last season poor.

At 100m and our record signing and on 300k a week, should be not be doing a lot more?
Elite sport is irrelevant and frankly so is every other person in the world who have had difficulties in their life. It isn't black and white and certainly isn't point scoring of who has had something worse happen to them but reacted better. Even more so when we have no clue of the circumstances. Everyone reacts to everything differently, its what makes us human.

You do have every right to question his performances this year, as I even said myself he was miles off it. I just personally think some peoples dislike for him as a person spills into their critique of him as a player. You still see his off the field antics line trotted out when in reality he's been as clean as any footballer whilst at city. Although I am happy to concede otherwise on that as I don't tend to read much of the gutter press and your memory can be a liar.

Again, absolutely you can expect more. I don't think there's a city fan who would disagree really. I do mainly put that down to this year though and what Pep wants from him. Even at points this year though we saw how he can improve the team but unfortunately injuries and illness halted an small momentum he had. Then the year before I don't think Pep would of realistically wanted anymore out of him, he seemed to carry his role out perfectly and that's all we can really ask for.

When we stumped up £100m for him I'm sure we all expected to see much more of Villa Grealish than we have but Pep obviously saw his role in the team differently. Its on Pep and the board why they decided an important cog to a team rather than a superstar is worth £100m not Jack. I'm sure if we allowed him the freedom we'd see that Villa version of Grealish again but then the overall team could suffer.

The thread is a player performance thread, we are talking about the players performance. I don't give a fuck about the bridges he burned, he was a game changer here and has cleared up the issue about his silly agent making those allegations, besides its not a communist club, he can say what he wants.
Sorry did I warrant that aggression in your response? Have a good day, it’s not that deep.

Grealish doesn't only compete against other players, he competes against what swathes of fans want to see in a wide-man.
Well said. And Grealish isn’t the only one to suffer from these types of comparisons. However, I don’t think we’d be as successful if all our players played like the more stereotypical version of their position.

Why does he? He was an integral part of the Treble winning side he was neither a massive creator or scorer, yet he was started time after time, if he wasn't performing his role why was Pep picking him?
What other player has Pep encouraged to play the way Doku does? Doku plays the way he does is because that's all he has he's the most one dimensial player we've had for a long time, now if he can improve his finishing we might have a baller of Henry levels tho i very much doubt it, but he's almost a necessity now we defend that much higher up the pitch condensing our attacking space almost to the point were creating more problems for ourselves than it solves.
Yes Jacks been poor not because he lacks the attributes just the role he plays and a lack of form even if he was on fire you'd still be saying if he was excelling in a more suited position 'I didnt know he had that in his locker'
Sick him in an Arsenal shirt and you'd be looking at POTS candidate its the way he's used, said the same about Gundo and implied same with Palmer... And yes that obviously that alone makes me more knowledgeable than Pep!

Silva had time off for his son.
