10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

Mangala has entered the chat
I remember Mangala's debut when he had Diego Costa in his pocket, so that counts as a good game. I cannot recall a single game I have witnessed with Grealish when I genuinely thought, Wow, this guy is a player. Add to that Grealish was 3 times the price and has no doubt earned 3 times as much. It's a good shout, but Grealish wins.

Most expensive player we’ve signed. Not scored in a year. Benched for the derby and comes on to put in a couple sub par corners…. I’m beyond having patience with him now
That not scored in a year stat really is damning. Fucking hell.

Strange player, is our Jack. He has a reputation for cockiness but I would argue the opposite; other than a three month purple patch in the treble season, he's had a crisis of confidence since being here. He's played within himself for too long now. I do think some of that is down to Pep, the swashbuckling qualities he showed at Villa have been completely coached out of him, but equal blame must be laid at his feet. He could easily go against the manager and take a game by the scruff of the neck. He doesn't.

I thank him for his output during our greatest ever season, but sadly, I don't think we're seeing that Jack again. Our worst ever signing? Not for me. But I wouldn't side eye anyone who holds that opinion.

The last 6 months of the treble season he was brilliant. However we signed him in August 2021. It’s 3/4 months months in 3 years of him being here. You would imagine that he would be absolutely fuming that he’s on the bench during the period where we have been dog shit, but I get the impression that he’s just not that bothered. He’s got a pretty comfortable life at city and he’s fine with it.

That's also the impression I get. It's a shame but I think he's done here.

Highly unlikely he’s done here. Don’t think we have any intention of selling him this summer. On the list of players we might replace this summer doubt he makes the top 6 and we won’t want to be replacing more than 4 maybe 5 in one summer.

He was definitely more exciting at Villa. Still think he could do something special if he can get a run of games
For that to happen he'd need to be given a free role - that won't happen in a Pep side.
Undoubtedly contributed during his time with us, but I don't think we've actually seen the best of him.
Now's the time to move him into a more KdB role inside for me and we'll profit

Would have Phil playing in the KDB role ahead of Jack.
Phil scored plenty of goals last season behind Big Erl, when Kev was injured.
Unfortunately, Jack doesn't seem to take a pot-shot (appreciate he has been used mainly on the wing), which is what Phil is prepared to do.
Jack always seems to want to get the ball fully under control, which is far harder in the #10 role with more central/defensive players in front of you.
Definitely needs to play against Villa, but alongside Kova replacing Gundo...

Has been voted MOTM on this forum a dozen times, at least, since he showed up.

6 months? By his own admission he didn't show up in either the champions league or FA cup finals so let's not rewrite history.
