I’ve been saying he needs to play in the middle for a quite a while. He’s got all the attributes to play there. I think he could play 6, 8 or 10.

Seems a bit mad saying this as he cost £100m, but he could save us from spending money on a CM. We still need a DM, but I think we need two new midfielders.

Best game in a City shirt…and when we really needed it from him. Only a goal would have made it better.

This strikes as the current boom/ bust/ amazing/ terrible take that seems to have become the norm.

He was above average there today and showed enough to believe there is something there.

Think a lot on here wanted him tried there and it’s clouding there judgment.

Think his positioning at times was off, didn’t ever look a real goal threat and as such I don’t think he was brilliant or our long term answer at this point.

However and someone may prove me wrong he seemed to really do a good job of keeping possession, particularly carrying the ball forward.

He has not played that position in a long time and so I think he will have learnt a lot tonight.

Agree that he needs to start there against Palace, but think a lot of work needs to be done if he is ever going to become a regular starter there for us.

I hope for him he does it, very likeable guy by all accounts and has a lot of talent.
I thought he played really well

Just confused why it's taken so long to play him more centrally with the injury/loss of form situation.

A player who wants and needs the ball and a better player when he has.

I was thinking the very same, I'm sure he'll only get better if he's given a run in the side more centrally, and goals and assists will surely follow.

Just as important is keeping fit and getting into some sort of rhythm wherever he plays, he could have to turn out at CB the ways things are going!

He was excellent, keep him behind Haaland with Kev and we have a chance of doing something this season.

Probably his best game since the treble run in.

Pleased for Jack and the whole team, they bloody needed that last night.
Excellent at Old Toilet and vs Real away last season as well.

He played well when he could but just very rarely played due to fitness issues last season.

Whatever that setup with him in the middle, Gvardiol getting forward and joining Haaland in attack, and Doku felt like a glimmer of a system we could win something with this season. Just totally added a bit of security in the centre, knew when to attack and sit back. Let's hope he can stay fit and play to that standard all year.

It's the ground duels and the pass accuracy. Winning the ball back and keeping it. That's what the midfield has been struggling with lately.

Those stats exemplify why Jack is an important squad member. Quite simply, he has outstanding technique. He also has a good engine and can play sensible football (like Gundo can / does).

I hope Pep perseveres with him in a central role. That left side of Josko, Doku and Jack has real possibilities.

Surely part of the reason is that he was one of the walking wounded?
I hope so, the situation with the National team was a strange one and put a lot of doubt about the reason he was not in the team.

But that's in the past, we need everyone together and get us back on some sort of level.

Keep in touch and bring in some much needed quality and reinforcements in January and in the summer.

Every season we have a 'moment' where Pep makes a tweak that transforms the team. I do wonder if sticking Jack in midfield might be this season's. He looked at home and confident last night, like a weight had been lifted almost.

Wishful thinking maybe and the title is beyond our reach IMO but if we can have a strong second half to the season and finish second a couple of points behind I'll be happy.

Excellent performance. Got up and down the pitch really well, and was helping create space for others with his movement. So composed and solid on the ball he's exactly what we need in terms of controlling the tempo and ensuring we don't get overrun. Was good even in a deeper position. If he does get given the ball under pressure he's so good at protecting it or winning a foul, it's the ideal place for him to play given the injuries we have in that area.
