I haven't read the thread but if anybody thinks Sergio will ever play for City in any kind of meaningful way they are going to be disappointed. I'd love him to get a scoring cameo in an already-won cup final or league decider or something but there won't be any more than that. Wednesday told the world where we are at: he wasn't picked despite being fully fit and needing game time, and when he came on he was a million miles off the pace.

What a hero but it's over now.

Well put.

Think we need to look to the future as much as I love Kun.

Kun’s my favourite ever player and it’ll take someone very special to take that crown. His goal against QPR is the best moment of my life to date. I have a feeling he’s leaving. Think Pep wants a striker and he needs to let one go and letting Jesus go over Aguero doesn’t currently make much sense. I’d still keep Aguero no matter what. For me he’s our best ever player because he was the signing that took us up that final level. Our top scorer in every single title win bar this one (). In his prime the ultimate big game player feared and envied by the whole of Europe. I don’t want to see him leave after a season of barely playing and no fans being in the stadium. Just doesn’t feel right. He deserves the best send off we can possibly give him and if he wants to stay we should make sure that happens. We owe him that much.

I think we are making the same mistake that Barcelona did with Suarez. It s pretty hard to find a real goalscorer nowadays, not mentioning that is Aguero we are talking about, possibly the best player that ever played or will play for us. People talking like he is 37 yo, he is just 32, he still has 2-3 good seasons ahead of him. I would give him a 2 years long extension without a blink. Not because of what he did but because of what he can do.

Too much sentiment there for me. What he has done before is without question, but he has been out for the best part of a year and we don't know what toll, if any his injuries may have had.

Has the rest of this season to command his place, but as he is getting so little game time, maybe we are seeing the end of the Aguero era.

You may be right but I was simply musing about why he hasn't been featuring recently.

maybe the unbeaten run was why aguero had to wait and like you said why change a winning setup
but its time to open up the doors and outscore teams again. aguero has to play as much football in the remainder of the season and he simply wins you games with his goals

Again, I thing some are embroiled in the past with what he has achieved. Sergio today is not the same beast I dont think

get aguero on the pitch and he will score why spike your face if the team needs a goal to win
if there is something between pep and aguero then for the good of the team pep has to eat humble pie

pep did not need to bring him on and play him the other night ? so maybe there is a plan or aguero has not been fully right and pep did not need to gamble on him

unfortunately it does look as if Kuns time with us is coming to an end ,but we cant let sentiment get in the way of footballing decisions. We need to find a striker to replace him simple as that, and one of the possible generational strike talents could be available and we need to secure him, to build on what Kun has helped us to achieve over the years.

I don't think there's been a falling out or anything like that, and to some extent I agree there'd be value in keeping Aguero as a squad player/back up. But he isn't going to want that. He wants to play, he's competitive. So I think the right thing to do is let him go where he will get lots of games.

People talk about Sergio as if he was scoring goals for fun just 6-7 weeks ago, whereas his last really good performance against a top team at the Etihad was nearly 2 years ago, in the 2nd leg against Spurs in April 2019. And if we talk about his last great performance vs a top team away from home, we may need to go back not 2 but 3 years. He started the 19/20 season with many goals, but virtually all of them against mediocre teams, apart from one goal vs Spurs in August 2019. The last time he was at his best was 2 years ago, and that's at the Etihad.

We all will be very happy if Sergio regains his best form, but Pep doesn't seem to be optimistic about it and he is likely to know him much better than any of us. Many still struggle to understand how important it is for our team to high press and defend from the front. Forwards in Pep's system do much more than just running into channels and striking the ball. Sergio could do what Pep wanted from him 2 years ago, whether he still could it is a bit questionable. Time will tell.
