11 games left...

I think we'll do it. The win over chelsea has give us a real momentum and we have a weekend off before our next game which will give the squad a bit of a rest a some time on the training ground to iron out any problems and to gain a better understanding as this squad is still gelling all the time.

I have put a lot of thought into this, looking at all of Villa's, Spurs and Liverpool's upcoming fixtures as well.

I reckon we need 71 points (i.e. 22 from the 11 games). Unfortunately, I think Villa are going to win their next 4 games and are also going to win at Blackburn and Hull. If they pick up only 4 points from their other 5 games, then they will be on 70.

Liverpools matches are harder to call, but I have them finishing on 70 as well. Maybe both Villa and the dippers won't, but I am sure one of them will. So will need 71.

EDIT: I had forgotten Villa's game against Sunderland is postponed, so I only expect them to win their next 3. Still, I do expect them to get 70 points.

Here's a breakdown of the remaining fixtures for all four contenders for fourth:

<a class="postlink" href="http://skybluethinking.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/a-breakdown-of-the-run-in-for-fourth-place-contenders/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://skybluethinking.wordpress.com/20 ... ontenders/</a>

There's a mistake in it.

They have Villa as down to play United (which they don't) and they have missed off the Villa v Chelsea game.

I think we'll win 5 our of our remaining 6 home games with one draw which would give us 16 points. I reckon another 9 points from the 5 away games would get us 4th place

Away :

Burnely - Win

Sunderland - Win

Fulham - Draw

Arsenal - Loss

West Hame - Draw

----------------------

8 Points

Home

Wigan - Win

Brum - Draw

Rags - Win

Villa - Win

Spurs - Draw

Everton - Draw

---------------

12 Points

20 points total. I feel this is realistic, its a very hard run in we have to play 6 decent sides in there. Would leave us with 69 points just short of 4th spot I think you need 70 or over this season.

Liverpool and Villa have much easier run ins I expect the 4th spot will probably go to Liverpool in the end :(

Sunderland A 3

Fulham A 1

Everton H 3

Wigan H 3

Burnley A 3

Birmingham H 3

Rags H 3

Arsenal A 0

Villa H 1

West Ham A 3

TBA Spuds 1

Total 24

Grand Total 73

definately secure top 4

I think that the fact that we play against some of the better footballing sides definitely works in our favour - our results have been good against the better sides - we strugggle against the hoofers and cloggers.

I tip us to beat the Rags at home again, but if I had to choose between drawing or losing to the Rags and 4th spot, or thrashing them 4-0 or 5-0 and ending up 5th or 6th, which would I choose?
