If comparing him to the young wingers we’ve had Phil, Sane and even Sterling I personally don’t think he’s at the level of the players mentioned. It’s a tough one on the left side, as I don’t think there is an outstanding candidate. Hopefully they push each other on.

Hmmmm. Sterling could be frustrating but he made a major contribution to City’s success and even when supporters whinged about him when he was in his best period, he was often a thorn in the side of opponents and caused their defences problems.

His form dipped towards the end of his tenure but if Doku can have the sort of impact and show the growth Sterling did, he’ll be fine.
Meesh wasn’t a fan.. :-)

At last a reasonable review.
Suggest we all convene at the end of the season and the I told you so's can...er... tell us so.
Let's hope so.
I think you’re suggesting that playing Doku cedes some of the control that Pep coverts, and I’d agree with that assessment.

Doku can destroy low blocks, so is very useful in those games.

In games where we’re playing top end counter attacking teams, he probably won’t play as much as control thrn becomes more important than breaking the block.

He’s 21 and is exciting to watch. Fans love to see mad dribbles. He’s not perfect and needs to learn to slow his brain down before making his pass/cross.

A terrific asset for our squad.

He's way off it for me - but will bow to the weight of public opinion which clearly love him, and respect the words -
Young
Needs to
Will learn
Potential
Exciting
Develop
Etc.
Nobody expects a ready made player at that age - but hes got a long way to go in my opinion, perhaps too much on what I've seen so far.

However, I won't be joining in with the "I want to be like you" song if you don't mind.

The kid is a phenom. He just creates so much havoc. Of course it doesnt come off in terms of percentage but hes a volume chance creator. In absolute numbers his chance creation is bigger than anyone else. People look at his mistakes but dont notice how the team relies on him to make something happen. The play gravitates towards him whenever hes out there.

I do think however he might be better on the right side. Pep sees him as a natural cutting winger but hes getting a bit one dimensional on the left. He doesnt have a strong shot and is not as ambidextrous yet to hit accurate crosses with his left foot. On the right wing he would have to be more creative and his crosses would be better. He was a monster on the right at Rennes.

Quite amusing how anyone could watch that than and not be pleased and excited by the ability and potential in that kid. Does things that very few in the world can do consistently at this level and what can’t be teached.

His biggest error in the match was not playing the 10 yard pass into Haaland towards the end. I’d rather enjoy the way he burst past 3 to get into that position than dig him out too much for the mistake. That’s what we have the best coach in the world for to teach him to look for the right pass. Even Pep couldn’t teach him the first bit that got him there and nobody else in our squad would have managed that run either.

He started his City career on the RW then Pep moved him to the LW, obviously Pep knows best but I've said previously he doesn't have the skill set (yet) of a cut in winger.

He doesn't have the right foot finesse shot.
He lacks power in his strike Right and Left.
He doesn't have accuracy crossing with his left foot, this aspect needs to be Pin-point accuracy because we play teams that pack the box.

His current skill set is better suited to RW.

He can beat a man from a standing start on either foot.
His crossing is better with his right foot.
Doesn't have as much decision making on the RW, it's beat your man and cross, hug the touchline and run in behind (which he needs to do more).
Defensively has more help as Walker/Akanji are better positionally Gvardiol.

Quite mad that there's already an entrenched minority of people who after 10 games or something think he's not good enough for City. He's clearly getting the Bluemoon Raheem Sterling treatment. All feels a bit pantomime and obviously incredibly premature.
