The different treatment compared to Bobb happened for some obvious reasons: 1) Bobb is an academy graduate (and fans here love that more than anything). We hope and pray for academy graduates to become great. 2) Doku's presence and successes generally doubled as an obstacle to Grealish's position on the 11. So those who had a particular soft spot for Grealish made a point to point out every Doku error.

Finally, Doku did have some glaring problems that legitimately needed ironing out. His defensive work was pedestrian at best. and his decision-making was often average at best. That said, the skills that he possesses are neither teachable or replicable by anyone on the squad. So there.
Agree with this - but also on top of a lot of our fans are clueless, spoilt dicks who love to slag off certain players when it's plainly obvious that they have something special and just need a bit of time. Doku, Gvardiol etc etc etc etc etc.

There are both foreign youngsters, so I don't understand why the one that was bought a bit earlier is seen as more fashionable. To be honest to me it always seemed to be more of a fundamental misunderstanding of Doku's game than anything else. The constant criticism of his weaknesses kind of supports that, because its always 'yes sure he can do that, BUT he should really work on this and that' as if its some kind of profound insight to say that he is not brilliant at everything. No one says yeah Bobb is great, but he should really be quicker or hold up the ball better, or head the ball better or whatever. Because of course no player is perfect. And don't get me wrong I like Bobb very much.

People can be a bit weird about "end product." We've had several players who, in percentage terms, had "poor end product," but in real terms still out-contributed players seen as having "better end product"

So someone like Oscar Bobb might get into a dangerous position once or twice in a game and find a teammate/get a good shot off both times. "Good end product."

Doku, on the other hand, might only find a good pass or get a decent shot off 50% of the time, but he gets into those positions like 10 times a game and therefore creates way more chances in real terms. For some reason, some people fixate on the ones he didn't create, rather than the ones he did

I'm not going to accuse you for plagiarism, but instead thank you for independently reaching the same conclusion as myself a few months ago!

You can see it as irksome, or realize that despite the low conversion he still produces an elite total of chances, and just enjoy the way he does that, because its simply entertaining.

What I mean is you have someone like Foden or Bernie who plays a different game and takes the ball to a dangerous area three times a game and out of those three times he makes an assist or scores a goal at least once, or at least makes the right decision to create a chance. Meanwhile you have Doku who will try ten times in his way, and make a mistake eight times through the wrong decision or inaccurate pass after getting past his guy, but he will get it right twice. 2>1 in the end.

Of course its a simplification but the point is in absolute numbers he creates a lot, and people being unhappy because he doesn't both do what he does best AND make efficient decisions all the time are basically expecting him to be Messi, because thats what a hybrid of Doku and Foden/Bernie would be. Its asking too much honestly. I'd rather enjoy the eight times he creates excitement without end product, knowing that eventually he will get one right due to sheer volume.

I think Pep plays him on the left because he sees him as a project and wants to improve Doku's shooting and turn him into a scorer. But Doku is not a Mbappe/Leao type of inside forward, hes a winger who will always be better at assisting than scoring. Being on the left doesn't improve his decision making because he is doubled more easily due to the obvious choices he has, and he has too much time between receiving the ball and making that choice. He sizes up opponents for too long, overthinks and then very often he has to restart because all the options are taken away. On the right he would play more instinctive and reactive which is his game. So its basically a decision by Pep whether he wants to turn Doku into a different player (more of a forward) by developing his shooting, or to fine tune his strength which is creation, which would be better to do from the right wing because his decision making would get better there.

Technically, you might be right. But emotionally, a player who starts or comes through the City youth system will get way more leeway than a player bought to go straight into the 1st team.

One is viewed as a kid showing immeasurable potential, while the other is viewed as a star not reaching his..

It's a psychological thing. That said, how someone reacts to Bobb playing 17 minutes at the end of a game greatly differs to how one reacts to a poor performance by a starter who is keeping other good players on the bench.

It's just perspective. There is no mystery to it

I can't really do the counting, but it seems that hes one of the players in the team that has the biggest percentage of "haters" (to use the parlance of our times).
Don’t let it get to you. As dispiriting as it is to see, there are people who don’t offer anything constructive and this has been done so to many players who have made the move to City. Even some regarded as legends have received dogs abuse on here. Not that I’m ok with it but that’s BM for you. Best to ignore or you’ll find yourself exasperated over it.

Although @Gaylord du Bois was strong with his words, it’s not everyone doing it. It’s a shame but best to have a discourse with those who don’t actually give any constructive criticism on Doku or put them on ignore. Your sanity will thank you.

I am old enough to remember people in the prematch thread moaning and fretting over Doku starting over Kova…
