I called him raw on the evidence I saw before he signed. Yesterday he did look pretty damned assured of his mission, and his touches and techniques, which were always impressive but seemed to be used a bit randomly, were a lot more organised and smooth than I expected. He kept it clean, orderly and looked really focused and aware. Evidence of him being more of a heads up player than I expected, when carrying the ball into the box he several times had the balance and vision to playing sharp little low balls into dangerous areas. I expected a box of fireworks going off, I got a neat choreographed display. He looked a quality, refined footballer. Well done indeed.
Everyone should try to keep in mind that when Pep and co. look at a player they look at him as to what he can do here and how he would fit with us, not necessarily based strictly on how he may look at Leipzig, Wolves, Rennes, or wherever...look at Antony, look at Sancho and then look at Doku. It tells ya all one needs to know about our ability to bring in high end quality without breaking the bank. We operate millions of miles from where the media and opposing supporters try to put on us. And that's great. Let them say and believe(?) whatever they want as it allows us to keep playing chess against basically 2 year olds...you have to love it...

Given his name seems rather appropriate...to the Pearl Jam tune, Jeremy!

So what you're saying is that we see what they can't see or something to that effect.

people keep repeating the word "raw" and I gotta say I don't quite understand what that means. looks mature as hell to me. doesn't enter battles he can't win, doesn't aimlessly dribble but always with a sense of purpose. slows the game down when necessary, increases the tempo when necessary.

45 mins where he was by far our best player, mind..
I don't think he is raw. Just not as sublime technique wise as some of our players. But he brings something different.

He is going to be polarizing isn't he?

I think he is a budding superstar with flaws. If he hits the heights of what he is good at, his flaws won't matter.

Kinda like Erling in that regard.
He plays in our strongest starting 11 right now, as does Alvarez

Can't wait for him to linkup with KDB when he gets back! Already showing great promise which is great to see!

For only a second performance, and WHU’s goal apart, this was brilliant. Exciting too.

No disrespect to Jack but he’s got real competition here. For tuna telly (spell check WTF but I like it!) for Jack, the hard miles implementing Pep’s tactical requirements will keep him in pole position for the time being. That said, Jez’s speed and ability to penetrate both inside and outside will give him plenty to think about.
I’m picking Jeremy over Jack right now unless it’s a game where we need control, it’s still difficult to consider dropping Doku though

We all have different opinions and I agree that he was very good against West Ham at the weekend. It was only his second game for us, and I suspect that he will have days where he doesn't quite come off.

However, I wouldn't look at it as " dropping " him, where a situation exists that Pep wants to use the control that Jack gives to the team.

I see all of the squad being involved and inter changeable as needs and demands vary between games and styles of play adopted by our opponents.

Agreed.

By the way, Pep's discussion by today puts to bed the notion that Pep 'instructs his wingers' specifically Jack to not attack his defender early one v one.

It's clear our wingers have the greenlight to attack their defenders at will, unless it's a clear bad decision, then you can go backwards and rotate.

Jack slowing down to rotate the ball is NOT by instructions. Rather, it's his decision to make based on what he sees. Clearly, he and Doku are making different decisions often playing the same role.

Hold up...by we do you mean us supporters or the club?
Is they Pep and co. or the media and other supporters?
I may have misunderstood your post, LOL...
