11 | Jeremy Doku - 2024/25

very good point.

But on the other hand if the midfielders push front with them what if they lose the ball and will KDB Bernado or Kova fast enough to recover the counter attack if they have already in the opposite box? KDB maybe have the pace but he is not very good at defending. Kova and Bernado (as well as Rodri) are not very pacy.

In a team with loads of fast midfielders they can push up more bodies. Our squad didn't build like that. We prioritize midfielders skills over pace.
Agree with the midfield point, but Pep is switching back to tricky wingers so we need players coming into the box with them. When it was SAS years, Sterling was great at coming across to be that person for the tap in.

Its a new tactic will be interesting how the dilema you talked about will be worked out.

Not sure what you mean? My reply was to your issue with no one else being available, so the obvious thing would be to shoot, like when he went past 3 players and had a one on one and he cut it back to nobody!

Also, when he was on the right, he was played in at the byline and he crossed it straight out of play. The number of attackers in the box becomes moot then!

He’s a rough diamond, with unique abilities. If he can calm his mind after creating space and make the killer pass/shot, he’ll be a top 5 player in the world.
Absolutely agree, but if there is no one chasing in, who is there to receive the killer pass - which was a major issue las week. If 2/3 are blocking Haaland like is happening there is space for the midfielder following in. And Hey presto just like magic the king of doing just that returns from barca :-)

SAS year the front three could finish the counter attack by themselves without midfielders pushing up into the box.

And Ferna at that age was quicker in recovery than Rodri now. Rodri is better in almost every other aspect but pace is not.

With an older midfield and a backline of center backs... It is difficult to play a fast game.

All this talk about his end product, look at his runs and tell me where there are the players running into the box to pull the defenders around. If we are playing with wingers against a low block we need 2/3 players following the runs into the box on the front and back posts spread out.
That is true. Gundo was and is the master of back posts and crashing the 18yard area. His return will rack up Doku a lot of assists!
Kyogo makes similar runs and quick clever runs that beat the offside trap always and those near posts runs. Kdb, Savio, Doku, Gundo and Foden will feast with him!

He did. While his top speed is not elite, his strength helps him a lot to hold off defenders closing in on him in pursuit and make them lose balance in the process. He uses his athleticism well in this situations, the problem is last season he didn't have the energy to do this often, so hopefully this season he has, the signs are good so far.
Not elite?

He’s one of the fastest players in the League.

I think he certainly is over short distances, but over longer distances, not so much.
But Jérémy' main job is to receive the ball close to the opponents' penalty area.

It’s the central midfielders' task to get the ball out to him; it’s not for him to run the length of the pitch with it.

Oh, I agree. He's perfect for us, as 99% of the teams we play are on the back foot, but I think he's very different from Leroy Sane, for example, who had 100M sprinter-sort of speed and loved the ball over the top versus to his feet like Doku.
