11 | Jeremy Doku - 2024/25

Lets hope he will master that move & shot

We need this kind of magic
Yea he seems to have all but mastered that 'move' but he's had too many wayward shots after it, so hopefully he can kick on after that one he smashed in yesterday. We really needed that goal so he probably got us 2 points yesterday

First ten minutes Doku is terrorizing the french defense. From the right wing as well. Hope he scores, its been a while he hasnt for Belgium.

He has the tools to be a top 5 player in the game, thats why I expect more from him. He doesnt even need to have more accurate finishing or crossing/passing, just to learn to understand space better and move more to be less predictable. Hes the focal point of Belgium's offense, needs to have better output. Right now he frustrates opponents and teammates to equal measure.

Had intended to say quite a bit after our last game

I found it rather interesting. How little was mentioned about how well he played

and I'm not just speaking about that goal.

That goal, being said is that it took place at a vital moment and I didn't even hear anyone on any of the podcast reference it as something important I mean, I know we gave up a goal after but had he not scored that goal? Does everyone realize we wouldn't have won the game?

What can people do that? He did that was bad in this match I'm not sure I could go back and rewatch, but I didn't see anything. I saw a lot of positives and others that we weren't mentioned or didn't seem to be spoken of.

I think the lack of credit Doku seems to get from fans when he does well

and can we recall that heading towards the end of last season, he was repeatedly doing well after the critics were out with the guns blazing.

I don't know if anyone remembers and then suddenly all the critics went quiet.

Now we're already getting into this last match some of the same rhetoric when he's just got here and I don't know if anyone remembers have we had plans to take a little while to bed in?

And also Doku's positive energy, determination, commitment to ball retention, improved decision makinf and attitude and approach to the games.

I recall one moment where the criticism of him would gather that he would take on the defender instead of hold and wait, but he did and it was a good decision and it helped.

I remember another moment where he thought to win for a ball that was a huge piece and retaining the possession after I believe Bernardo or another player made a poor decision and he helped us get the ball back.

Wonder if that's why Pep plays him and why there's another player that doesn't play who thinks he deserves to play from a certain country named Portugal is getting to be rather interesting.

In fact, I've been thinking this for a while and noticing their certain fans who, for whatever reason repeat repeatedly some on some well-known podcasts for city, literally say things like he's not gonna make it he's not a city player.

So criticisms I remember hearing:

  • no final ball
  • poor finishing
  • poor good decision-making
  • giving the ball away

Can someone point where he did this consistently in this game at least?

Kovacic, for as wonderful as he was quite as good with protecting the back line defensively so he scored two fantastic goals, and he got man of the match.

I actually think he might be more at fault for our problems and it's actually kind of a positive and negative more than Doku certainly wasn't that game.

End of the game, Doku was retaining possession exceptionally well especially to finish the game off after Fulham scored..

- I saw him winning the ball back by any means
- fighting off defenders frustrated with him as they always are
- but also because he kept being pesky and winning possession back

Infuriating defenders as usual trying to figure out what to do and tired.

scared for their lives about what might happen when he has the ball.

On his goal, his little move is why the keeper looked bad. He wasn't sure which way he was going for a split moment.

That was all Doku needed.

I feel his crossing delivery is getting quite good as I'm seeing him put the ball usually in a good position with a nice curl in the box but sometimes people just aren't there, and when we don't have pace and anticipation outside of Haaland, which was the problem.

We are not just exposed on counters, but no one to come in for those crosses.

I don't know what he can do about that

I know I said quite a bit, but I'll just say lastly and cut the rest for now:

I was screaming aloud how his late brilliantly created and taken goal was so vital.

but did anyone even talk about its importance and the timing? Feels we were bogged down in the negatives

Fulham were also deserving of credit and I can't really say that he's at fault for the defensive frailties we're showing this season.

No Rodri is more of an issue than we are realising, and Pep implemented a new system to prevent counters as was shown in a great tactical video by the Tifo/Athletic tactics lads. We get killed off of set pieces and any give aways deep on the opponents final third.

Notice Doku DID NOT force it later on and helped keep the ball.

He's learning this more and still doing his thing. I think he's adapted quicker than some of our better players now, but instead Is one of the first to get slagged off by some fans.

There are some very loud people on our city Twitter podcast sphere who did it last season. Went radio silent when he played very well in the run that led to the title. Now before this match heard it again as if the end of last season forgotten, and maybe give the lad a few games?

Says Doku doesn't belong, again.

So Jeremy is now in the breath as Walker (lightning rod numero uno) and I can't recall hearing a word on Nunes, who has had 2 good games and showed a bad attitude in the Carabo cup game after he scored.

NOT saying Doku is World Class or even close to a finished product.

Yet Doku's potential + visible growth whilst coming in into a known difficult adjustment for any player

Has also led me to wonder if anyone's considered how Pep or Txiki or someone...realised...

That we needed a Raz with potential again.

Doku IMHO has more of a chance to be better than Raz bc no England fan vitriolic treatment

So far just our own fans.

Doku, is likeable and do you ever see him down or rattled?

Riddlle me this bat detectives...

If he's rubbish why is Pep playing him?

Btw, Stefan Borson appeared on the Man City show on the case but stayed to talk football

He basically sounded like me when asked about Doku, saying he was surprised so many have been so harsh on him.

This is not someone who is quiet about criticisms of players, or anything with the club when on 9320.

He, Savinho and Bobb and Foden I believe have a huge chance to be our future lethal combo as our other players age.

Being at the other end of the stand I couldn’t make out whether his end product was poor again today. He did seem to be causing them a lot of problems though and everything we did was coming from the left. Strange decision to move him to the right as I thought the last 15/20 mins of the first half we totally dominated them and he was involved a lot.

Second half he didn’t do much but then neither did Savinho on the left. Baffling switch that one.

Pep fucked up with Jeremy and Savinho in the second half. I felt both were causing problems in the first half and they were contributing towards the game plan. When they switched in the second half, the momentum fell on its arse, it was like they had to start all over again.

It was bizarre but pep must have seen something that was worth a try. It didn’t work well though.
