11 | Jeremy Doku - 2024/25

I hope or assume we are training him hard on that finish.

Has all the hallmarks of the kind of player who can score the same goal over and over again.

You know what he’s going to do it, but he still does it type.

Whereas the reality is the defender doesn’t because he can both ways and would go on outside if the defender over compensates on the inside.

Great strength, acceleration and will take the opportunity to win a penalty if it is on.

Will have bad games as well (as do all wingers), hopefully he can gain more consistency.
It's why Sterling was so strong, and people didn't really appreciate it while he was here.

We tailor made everything so that Sterling would get chances like Doku can get.

The coaching team clearly drilled into Sterling to develop repeatable "weapons" so we saw Sterling constantly get loads of tap ins (using speed and positioning), curlers (using speed to give him time to position his body, and then bend the ball), and that's about it, he was never great at all other aspects of scoring.

Those 2 things he refined, and he knew he was deficient in general as a striker, so he worked on the two aspects he was decent at.

Probably a nightmare to play with too :) no one has any idea what hes going to do. Worked a treat.
The way he spins out of dead ends definitely throws off the likes of Haaland. He looks seemingly penned in and will just play a pass back down the line and then in a split second hes turned the fullback and has hit a cross at the near post which the likes of Haaland and Foden especially need to be on to but its just so fast im not surprised they cant keep up.

God, I loved his tap ins. Could never wrap my head around those who looked down on that ability.

2ice Haaland stopped thinking the play was dead or about to be recycled only for Doku to spring free and put in a cross Hasland was too late to attack :(

You just gotta know with Doku, it might still come off. Even when it looks like it won't.

Him, Savinho, Oscar Bobb are the future for our wings. They will terrify defenders for the next 10+ years. All of them have incredible raw ability. Jeremy was outstanding the other night. Once he improves his decision making (same with Savinho) they can all be amongst the world's best.

I think Doku could be coming out of that "rough diamond" phase, or at least I hope so, and turning into a real threat coming inside from the wing.

He just needs to develop an understanding with Haaland which may be harder than we imagine.

Can beat any player on his day.

In fairness to Haaland, did you see the long, hard sprint he made when Doku scored ?
He pulled the central defender away allowing Jeremy the room to shoot.
Think next season, with a fully fit Rodri, City may allow teams to come onto City more, with Doku, Bobb & Savinho scoring more counter-attacking goals like LFC & MUFC have done ?

Yeah Haaland made the right moves there.

It was a very Kane to Son kind of play.
