Doku was involved in the first 5 goals at Ipswich (his last start before yesterday). But we had Haaland and other players attacking the box then.

Our best chance yesterday was created by Doku with a really good pass to Marmoush. If Foden and KDB could do half of what Doku was doing, we'd have created plenty of chances due to having multiple free players in and around the box.
Out of 14 opportunities to create something, one ended up with a chance and none ended up with his own shot.

As simply fantastic as he was to get himself past the defenders, the output of the end product was poor.

I've read somewhere that Salah despite not having the ball much, did a lot more with it when he had it. Undoubtedly true. But it's worth remembering that at Doku's age Salah was still at Chelsea!
I think we need to give him and Savinho a bit of slack.
Worth noting as well that Doku had a lot less space to work with after he beat his man, and the box would be way more congested

As a thought, imagine if Doku had been playing for Liverpool yesterday instead of Diaz. He might have absolutely torn us to shreds with all that space

That pass to Omar at 2.05 is the kinda movement we need to aee more from others when he is on the ball, and he needs to search to deliver more. He can be a definite outlet going forward

I saw a few clips where we had possession on the right, and there was a gap in Liverpools defense between the RB and RCB.

He should adopt some Marmoush tendencies, he doesnt have to stay wide, make a run and attack the space!

I wonder sometimes whether the system takes away some common sense moves our players should do.

Not just Doku, I saw Marmoush a few times play over elaborately as well, fail to play a simple 1-2 with Doku.

Could also label all these things as lacking chemistry I suppose.

Genuinely never seen a player like him with the ability to do his man from a standing start like that from out wide.

He's on fuck all wages compared to the stars of the team. Keep him around forever in the hope he figures out his end product.

He’s worth having just for the awe factor and the odd great goal.

It's also worth noting that our other attacking players in the box are invariably on their heels waiting for it or loitering at the back post. Since he left, we have never had anyone with Aguero’s ability to attack the front post.

I think it's because they just don't have a clue what he's going to do. Contrast Haaland's movement between when Doku and Savio/ KDB have the ball. He doesn't seem to have any chemistry with his teammates.

Perhaps, but too often in the last two seasons, you could freeze a frame and draw a straight line through our attackers. Now that we have Marmoush, I expect him to gamble more and hit the front post. If he doesn’t, then Foden needs to make that run.

Hrs got more than enough ability imo just needs to work on a little floaty cross off each foot but especially his right when he cuts in to give the forward a chance. One for the coaches but maybe just needs to stabilise himself a split second longer

Quite apart from anything else, he ties two or even three defenders up. In any functioning team, that means space and freedom for others.

Also, anyone running in on his inside would have had at least one golden chance. But no, they hang around waiting for the customary back pass.

Disappointed he’s lambasted by so many in a game where he was head and shoulders above nine others, not just on skill but balls too.

But I get it, he’s not a Pep ball player and our ingrained tactics do him no favours. There needs to be quite a few personnel changes to force new tactics and for Doku to really thrive at City.

I was impressed with him on Sunday.
He now needs a run of games in the team, injury free, and to start connecting better with team mates in the final third.
Watching his highlights again from Sunday, he was brilliant at tying TAA up in knots but his final ball as we have all said. Its like he did the hard bit but falls down at the easier part.
It really shouldn't be that difficult for a winger to put in a decent ball, or at least one to beat the first defender, when they've engineered themselves a few yards of space.
Just any sort of dangerous ball that creates half a chance or a bit of chaos in their box would do. A pull back even, doesn't always have to go to the near post.

We’ve three years of Grealish-style left wing play to thank for that. Attackers hang back outside the area looking for the 5-yard diagonal back pass.

I suppose having the inverted wingers on both sides has meant players are just no longer looking at the front post as an area to attack, pity.

0:51 that's Aguero running to the fans with his hands up in the air. Clear goal scoring chance. The player should be in front of the defender there!

1:59 that's a goal, pretty much the same angle from where Leroy got the pass from Sterling and scored against them

You say that but a lofted ball would have been a piece of piss for them without Haaland. The movement was nonexistent on a couple of those balls into the 6 yard box. Obviously he doesn’t have a great left peg though anyway. So that’s a problem when he’s going full pelt to the byline

Only player to make me smile on Sunday.

Making TAA look like a 5 year old. At one

point TAA held his arms up at his teammates

begging for help as he knew he was being

skinned live on Sky. Deserved MoM just for that

Crazy how you just don't overload the box with cross targets if your strategy is to just let Doku work on TAA and get to the byline in the box. Give him more crossing targets ffs.

Another thing that is weird is that the other players just wait and watch if Doku pulls off the move and gets free and only then make the run. I don't understand why they don't assume the move will come off and start their run the moment Doku executes his dribble rather than when hes already completed it. Surely he is doing the same in training.
