Agree with a lot of people that Doku shouldn’t be starting regular but he is such a weapon to have in the bench to bring on when teams are tiring or we need a change of tactics.
There is a player in there somewhere and with prolonged Pep coaching who knows.
Whilst he just appears to be purely a winger, I remember a cup tie against Newcastle at the Etihad where he played inside and was outstanding

Not exactly new information but its interesting to see how he fares compared to others. Its a paradox because he can only be dangerous with his start-stop herky jerky take ons which require a lot of touches, but more touches means less efficiency/directness and more settled defences which are hard to break down even after you beat the first man.

As I said many times, Doku is absolutely enigmatic. He must adjust his game and improve certain attributes to be effective at the top level.

Should have started, we have zero threat without him.

When he is on the pitch we also look for him too much, he's occupying 2 or even 3 players constantly so there has to be others willing to take advantage of that that way the mere threat of doku is bringing something even if he's not producing or even touching the ball.

I really dont like how the team does that.

It is just "Give Doku the ball, okay now everyone in the box".

Doku is so good that sometimes something happens, but he doesnt get to link up with others.

Im not entirely sure he needs to start, not sure he has legs for it, wouldnt mind it.

At the very least he was an early sub and played a half.

My main worry is that he and Haaland have 0 understanding of each other, this has been evident for a while now, and not sure why the club has done nothing to work on this.

It becomes the easy ball which isn't surprising really for a side where everybody seems happy to just keep things ticking and looks to pass on the responsibility to actually do something to somebody else.

We then become incredibly predictable and the entire match rests on whether doku can beat 2 or 3 and produce something or not. We do it all the time qhen were struggling.

there has to be a balance, when the opposition double or triple up on him use the space to find another pass. But for that to happen we need somebody willing to make something happen, there's not a queue of players willing to do volunteer to do that.

if we would sign him this summer from Rennes he would be exact same player. dont think he is improving or improved a lot after 24 months at City soon.

He has one more season at City to get it right or its bust.

My biggest area of concern is in my opinion, him and Haaland are not compatible. 2 years now and just 3 times have they combined for a goal. That is dreadful.

If it doesn't get better next year he will be sold. Especially as he will only have 2 years left on his deal then.

He improved the stuff he was already good at. But you can't hide the stuff he's bad at, like composure at full pace or crossing. That pass to Haaland on the counter yesterday was amateurish at this level. Needs to stop taking that extra touch and just take the shot or cross with his second touch.

If Rodrygo is coming I think Doku is out of the door, that would make a lot of blues happy but it doesn’t solve our problems.

Rodrygo at least picks his head up when he dribbles and makes the odd run in behind. Doku just doesn’t do the work without the ball and doesn’t quite have the brain necessary when he does have the ball.

For the abuse he is getting, he was our major threat 2nd half. Foden did nothing after coming on , Savio was better in 2nd half as well . Marmoush and Haalnd had poor games comparativily

Never rated him since day 1.

Is he on the same level as Mbappe, Vini, Dembele, Salah, Saka, Yamal, Raphinha?

No… so no matter what contributions he makes, he’s not good enough and will never be.

We should never lower our standards because he has the most take-ons or dribbles in the team. That’s irrelevant.

So predictably boring.

One trick pony. Our best player today though which says everything.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of our recent recruits have been signed on the basis of being very good at a couple of things rather than having a good all round game. I know he's still pretty young, but so were Sterling and Sane when they were destroying the league.
