11 | Jeremy Doku - 2025/26

As you said it is strange that nobody but youhas noticed that Doku doesn't run.

I hadn't for one.
Try to focus on him for one match and count the runs off the ball that he makes. My bet is it will be less than two.

Then also count the presses he makes, but real ones, not half ass going through the motion once his man receives the ball. My bet is it will also be less than two.

So if he makes 4+ total combined hard presses and off ball runs, Im willing to change my username to whatever you want:)

Its strange how no one sees how little he runs and still how tired he gets... Im trying to find distance covered to confirm the eye test but these sites require payment, lol no thanks.
In the Champions league Doku 14.8km….6th in the list of Manchester City players. Bernardo tops the list with 23.8km.

For speed Haaland tops the list with top speed of 33.3km/h, Doku in joint 7th along with Dias @ 31.9km/h.

Since you are a Madrid fan Tchoumeni has covered the most distance @ 31.5km and Valverde with the highest top speed of 35.8km/h.

I am quite capable of watching a game tactically thanks.

Guaranteed you are one of the people that will slag Doku when hes been one of our best players but would have been defending Gundogan when he was terrible.

Take the bet then:) but if he doesn't I get to choose your username:D

Um what. Why would I be defending Gundogan and from what lol. Im a Doku fan actually not City fan, I don't really care about Gundogan as well as most other City players with a few exceptions. Im just here to discuss Doku and occassionally other players I like, like Savinho, Foden, Cherki etc:)

Oh I thought you was a City supporter my mistake. You dont come across as if you like Doku tbh. You like Savinho? I suppose somebody has to.

He is a Doku fan, as a regular contributor on this thread including last season. He is hurt though Madrid lost last night :D. And Doku a player he likes kicked his teams butt.

I like Savinho a lot, hes fast and daring, but he has a lot of flaws. However I think he will improve a lot of them with experience. Whereas Doku I feel is much better already and has a much higher ceiling too, but his flaws like poor stamina and tunnel vision are more difficult to eradicate.

Haha not really, Madrid's problems are much bigger than last nights loss. To be honest I found myself last night cheering many times for Doku to score, only for us to give up two super lame goals. So in the end I was more disappointed that Doku didn't destroy Vinicius in a duel of wingers. Yes Vini was absolutely pathetic and Doku was much better, but in the end neither him nor Doku scored or had an assist and thats what history will remember. If Doku had another game last night like he did against Arsenal or Liverpool, it would have been unequivocal turning of the winger rankings:)

I'd put his lack of bare stats last night more down to lack of protection from the referee than Doku's own failings?

A couple of bad decisions, maybe (Doku, not the ref) near the end, but that happens to most with fatigue.

But for a fingertip Courtois save, Doku would have scored one of the best goals in the CL this season

We’re genuinely fortunate to have Jeremy Doku in this side. What he offers as a complete package is outstanding. His acceleration, his press, his constant threat on the ball, it all changes the dynamic of this team. The way he carries possession up the pitch, the duels he wins, the chaos he creates, and most importantly his attitude - absolutely impeccable. He’s an absolute force of nature.

I’ll be honest, he can be very frustrating at times, and I’ve heard plenty of people slag him off in the stands. But you’ve got to put all that noise to one side and actually look at what he brings to the team as a whole. The impact, the bravery on the ball, the pressure he puts defenders under, it’s invaluable for us. Not every player is perfect in every moment, but the overall package he gives us is something we’re incredibly lucky to have. He elevates the entire side, and that’s what matters. He's fast become a very important player in this team.
The best yardstick is what opposing defenders think. I am willing to bet he scares the shits out of them more than any other player and that includes Vinicius.

Also his hold up play is much under rated. When we are under the cosh he has the ability to break out of defence and change the whole scenario.

I'd be surprised if the stats per 90 are in your favour.

I think your eye test is failing you.

his off ball movement beside his finishing is all he needs to work on. Also he doesn’t like running at defenders in open space he purposely slows our game down to get that burst of acceleration . It’s a 2handed sword

I'm watching the Madrid game again and he doesn't help Nico O'Reilly in defence at all. Madrid had a lot of joy down that side because of that. I know he offers a lot offensively, but I'm surprised Pep is allowing him get away with not helping O'Reilly at all.

Its not only that, its the fact that he is barely involved in the pressing upfront that bothers me. I can understand he doesn't have the stamina to go up and down the pitch all the time, but if youre going to be excused from tracking back, then at least do one of the following

1. Press upfront (not halfheartedly)
or
2. Make runs off the damn ball

He may be similar to Ronaldinho in style, but hes not as good to warrant just jogging on the left wing island until the ball comes to him or standing around in the middle.

This is true but I don't have a problem with that. Stop and start is a good way to create space rather than route one like Vini the idiot who just runs until he loses the ball.

I'd actually like to see him burst to his left side when his on the left wing and then fake the cross with the left foot instead of kicking it with the left which can be very inconsistent and most of the times get blocked.

He had a couple of sitations like this with Valverde in the first half, Fede was cutting off the chop to the middle and forcing him left, Doku just pushed with his burst and then crossed. Stop, turn to the right foot again. Never does this practically.

I swear give me three months to coach Doku and I will make him about 25 percent better (which would be enough for the BDO podium) :D
