The guy was actually a barrister acting on behalf of the crown. He was prosecuting which is odd, who needs enemies eh

I think I will do a bit of research into this next time I'm bored at work.

I can't for the life of me imagine a scenario where a comment like that could do anything but hinder the prosecution case.

If he WAS on the prosecution side then that comment defies belief. It's almost negligent in the exercising of his duties.

If this was the case, perhaps he was trying to steal the thunder of the defence, i.e., "even though the girl is sexually active and initiated the act, it was your responsibility to say no and distinguish right from wrong". That's the only scenario I can think of to explain such a comment.

I think the special group of barristers and judges being set up to deal with these types of cases is a good idea,
it will be interesting to see if they appoint any women judges in this group.
The comments of the barrister sounded like classic victim blaming, from an establishment steeped in misogyny.
It reads like the comments were put forward to mitigate sentencing of the defendant.

Maybe I will be glad when all forms of porn are removed from the net and society and I see no more pairs of bare breasts in my newspaper because I think we may have gone more than beyond the lowest level when we start queuing up to defend child molesters.

You make some very salient points, and it was a point I made in the blocking of internet born debate, however it is wrong to actually blame all men because we are not all like that, I dislike porn nowadays as it's just a fantasy version of sex as we all know real world sex in nothing like what most porn portrays, it's giving people imposable expectations, perhaps if we had proper and grown up sex education in this country and could talk about the issues openly and honestly
