Perhaps:) I said "Probably", so I clearly wasn't sure. But he didn't look like a natural passer to me. Looked like a natural old school Goalie who isn't used to this Pep nonsense.

That's what his demeanor was saying.
I think you are being harsh. I haven’t seen his stats but he found teammates most of the time. I will always love Joe for some of his performances but his distribution was like:
picks up ball and sprints to edge of box as if about to release someone with a cunning throw. Looks round urgently. Runs to other edge of area as if to release someone with cunning throw. Looks around urgently. Jogs to centre of box. Kicks ball 50 metres straight into touch. Gesticulates wildly at intended recipient exorting them to be ‘more aware/faster/taller next time. Trudges back to goal line. And repeat.

This 'Pep nonsense' saw us play the best football we have ever seen and broke numerous records.

Steffen isnt half as poor with his distribution as is being made out,we are just spoilt by Eddie.

I was simply chanelling my inner Steffen with the 'Pep nonsense' quip. I'm saying that's what he was thinking in his mind. Not that I think that.

Common man, I was the guy screaming about ball playing Centerbacks in 2008/9 under Mancini. Of course I am pro playing out of the back and like it. Just saying it doesn't look like Steffen does.

Your description of Joe made me burst out a laugh :) But yes I was a bit harsh. And I don't know for a fact he is worse than Joe.

But if that mistake of mine elicited this description of Joe, it was all worth it and I'd do it again. Lol

Had absolutely nothing to do.

Brain dead first few minutes picking that clear backpass up that could have cost us dearly. After that he Did an admirable Ederson impression with his passing, stayed calm under the press and didn't overcomplicate things, went long when he had to, hasn't got the low long ball Ederson has but can't be unhappy at that.

seemed weirdly slow at getting down and across a few times, once from a tame shot from the edge of the box that he seemed to dive late and almost make it more difficult than it was and again later on when he seemed to scramble across his box from a low cross.

I was expecting him to either come and take it as Ederson would have or seeing the picture in front of him leave it and retreat to his back post just incase, seemed to do a weird combination of both, led to nothing and he could have just changed his mind in coming for it but didn't seem right to me and zinchenko at the back post didn't seem overly confident it was a ball to leave either. Wasn't tested enough to see whether that was just a one off thing, hopefully won't get tested against United midweek either.

Looked nervous throughout, which is understandable in a big game... and when making your PL debut amongst a sea of Covid chaos.

This was particularly evident when we passed it back and he was playing it out... Much like the Arsenal game I wasn’t particularly confident it was going to end well... even putting to one side the one he picked up.

Thus far he looks a work in progress, considering how we play. It does make you realise how good Ederson is with his feet though when you watch a normal keeper try to play in our system.

I've got him above Bravo (the version that we had) and fairly comfortably.

Naturally attributes like distribution are going to be immediately compared to Ed's, which is grossly unfair - Ed is the best in the world.
