Fair play.......

Aymeric Laporte : "I am now 26, and I have never earned a single official cap for the France. With unexplained reasons. I am not a guy to oversee the Bench seats, I am that guy who deserves to at least collect some international caps. I have honored France for two years, but they never honored me even with one cap. I can't go to retirement without a single international cap, with Spain I will definitely play and earn big caps. French Federation sent me a message expressing their deep disappointment on my decision to change Nationalities. I didn't bother to reply or explain, because the writing is on the wall, they should send the text to their national coach not to me'

Strange for France to be so passive about a talent as good as Laporte...

If he does play for Spain, I’ll be pleased for him that he gets to play international football. But personally I think it’s outrageous to switch countries and I’ve never liked it. The whole point of international football is that you’re representing your country. Without that, it’s totally meaningless.

Win your place in your proper national side, and if you can’t then tough. I know he probably deserves a place and France are being a bit shit, but people get dealt a shit hand all the time. Giggs, Bale, Best etc didn’t play much in the major tournaments. Arteta hardly (never?) played for Spain to pick another example
I don’t disagree as a general principle, and don’t know his politics, but maybe psychologically he is genuinely Basque first. That would make it easier to jettison your official country.

Just like some Catalans put provincial allegiance before Spain.

If it‘s merely a flag of convenience, on the other hand, that’s rather less noble.

Didn’t play on Wednesday - Garcia came on instead of him - and again didn’t play yesterday. Hard to keep 3 top CB happy but I hope he doesn’t lean to going out the door on the back of it.

Maybe this was the player pep meant about not being happy with rotation, I can see him leaving this summer which would be sad because imo he is the 2nd best cb we have, however sometimes other players gel better and stones and dias is a hard partnership to split up

I think most players will accept rotation these days but Laporte isn't stupid, he is definitely 3rd choice and his rotation in, seems to be for the "lesser" games. I have no doubt that come Saturday, Stones and Dias start and rightly so. This will likely confirm everything for Laporte. Then its up to him if he wants a similar season next year, where he will play a lot of games but might not play in the biggest games, or he wants to go elsewhere. Lets face it, he starts every week at practically any other club in Europe. Ideally we would get to a point where we feel we can consistently rest Dias, and Stones and Laporte can be trusted alongside each other in any given game. I am not convinced we will reach this point though.

Even if he is unhappy, someone is going to have to stump up a lot of money. £60m+? Im not sure there are many clubs about that will be throwing around £60m on CBs this summer.

100% he will consider a move away if the right club comes calling. He is a starting centre back for 95% of clubs,he is entering his peak years, and just gained Spanish Nationality......he wont want to be playing second fiddle to anyone, and in fairness i wouldn't blame him.

Money will be the stumbling block.......but i can see him returning to Spain.

If he truly isn’t happy he is the most likely to leave and I’m sure we would get good money for a transfer too. Don’t think anyone expected this scenario so it’s a shame, but you have to up your game to get into our best 11.

Madrid could be in the market for a CB this year with varane possibly off & Ramos yet to extend.
