Thing is he is top quality for 90% of games the main problem is he doesn’t want to be dropped out the team for any amount of time! The season stones and Dias played together for some time there was rumblings Laporte wasn’t happy maybe if Ake starts complaining about game time he will get more.

He cost us 3 goals against Spurs in 2019.
He cost us 2 against Lyon in 2020.
He didn’t play in 2021.
He cost us 2/3 goals against Madrid in 2022.

I already know what’s going to happen in 2023 if he plays a big CL game.

They're both really good defenders, in a team that generally has a huge proportion of possession. In most matches it doesn't particularly matter that they don't seem to fully trust each other. They don't face a whole lot of attacks, and their quality is enough to handle a big proportion of what comes their way.

It's only when it comes to the crunch, against the top teams, that it becomes an issue.

I didn't like seeing them arguing on the pitch in the middle of the match today. And I can't help but get the impression they each find the other difficult to work with.

Their personal relationship doesn't really matter...until it does.

It’s a good point and something I’ve reflected on a bit since last night.

I’m not smart enough to work out what the issue is with our defence, but there’s an alarming trend this season that we don’t ever look capable of stopping decent sides from scoring past us.

90% of sides we face aren’t good enough to even lay a glove, they can’t get the ball off us. But the sides that can put us under pressure due to quality players seem to score at will; Liverpool, Madrid, spurs, Leipzig even Leicester have put 3 past us this season.

12 months ago we were imperious, something has gone wrong since.

He will get himself sent off early in the game

Not sure what's happened to him to be honest. Our defence looks more harmonious and less error prone when Stones and Dias are partnered in the middle. Laporte is a really good player but sometimes it's more about having a unit than individuals, I never thought I'd feel more confident with Ake ahead of him but that's how I feel. Last night we had Dias telling him in the first half to keep a better line and who to mark which Laporte seemed to take exception to. I much prefer the way that John, Ruben and Zinny were celebrating great defending in big games last year.

Also his biggest strength - passing out on the left hand side - has not been as good as before, he seems to take too many touches and his passing is far more conservative. Our team thrives on tempo and control as a balance not slowing it down to a standstill.

I don't know how I feel about him being here longer because when he feigns injury or starts moaning it's a bad look and in no way helps the team. Last year he made noises about moving when not in the first eleven. Our problem is getting John fit for more game but maybe it's time to move Laporte on - surely Barca would be interested in a swap deal or two. It will be interesting to see how Pep sees the future.

Scored the winning goal in 2019 for the title and the LC in 2021. Still haven't a decent left back to play along side him, always an out of position player.

Doesn’t surprise me that he didn’t have the bottle to try and fight for a France spot. Instead went and played for a country who’s defence is shite.

wont be bothered to see then back of him
The worst part about that is that all of France's defenders are currently shite too and he still couldn't get in, although Deschamps is a moron in fairness

To be fair I think that was more about Deschamps being a prick then Laporte

Fuck sake lads , he did nothing wrong last night
But he cost us big time in the first leg . If it wasn’t for his mistakes last night would not have happened . Wanted to go because pep wanted Dias and stones and also couldn’t hack it with deshamps not playing him . Think he will go in and he summer anyway .
