All players have to react to the situation put in front of them. A player cannot watch a play unfold and give it the old 'ah well, he isn't my man'. I would expect any average CB to understand what needs to be done in that situation and I have watched him twice in a matter of days shirk all responsibility, by failing to go and engage the man with the ball. If he engages and they roll it across and score, none of it is on Laporte. To simply jog back in a straight line and watch someone run 60 yards towards our goal and not bother to go across is criminal.

I like Laporte, I have backed him countless times in this thread when he has been getting pelters but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. He is fantastic in possession, but he has become one of the most passive CBs on the planet. We get away with it most weeks because the opposition are no good but in games like this he needs to toughen up.
I tend to agree to be honest. Just think the bigger error came from Dias initially.

Agree with others on here, where i think he was at fault i also think the positioning and awareness from Ruben was also culpable. In fairness it is only his second game in a row, so its understandable, but as a team i think both the captains (Ruben and then Fern) made key mistakes in pressing high up when we had just scored and it really wasn't required. The mantra at that point from both of them should have been to hold, keep the ball and be respectful of the break because that's where all the damage has been done. That was reminiscent of the past few seasons where we had struggled with that, but we 100% made a distinct change to that last season in Europe.

I would not mind to replace him. I think Dias-Stones duo is strongest, and Laporte did feel a bit last summer he would not be against a move. If we can charge as much for him as someone like Pau Torres would cost, dont think that would be a bad business.

Laporte too often at fault in our big games when important goals are conceded.

Our game management wasn't great and I think Laporte is culpable for 2 goals. I'm beginning to wonder if he's actually good enough to win the CL.
He has previous in big games.

His fault (& Dias for that mental press!) for the 2nd as much as Ferna. How he gives Vinicius a free run from the halfway line is baffling.

And that penalty… What’s his arm doing up there? Stupid penalty to give away.

Think he’s been poor by his standards this season.

He does,including the International stage.

Unlike Dias,or even Stones....He isnt at the quality level we initially believed.

Top of the league and we won it last season. Reached the final of the CL last season and good chance of the same happening this season. To say he isn’t good enough is harsh. He isn't perfect but a very good player.

clearly got caught in two minds about going to vinicius or staying in position to block the cut back to benzema. So instead he just lets vinicius have a clear run through at goal. Pretty difficult watch seeing it again i must say
