You have to admit atm he is making a lot of howlers mate .
He’s made a few not a lot, but then so has Walker , even Dias a couple. Rudiger makes them too.
But he is major part of the best defence in the league this year , he’s scored a couple of good goals. His passing is better than Rudiger and for a this team is a better fit. Which is why unless he wants to go he won’t be sold or replaced.

I think he has run his course at city and been a good servant but he is found wanting in the he big games and makes mistakes which cost us . Salah at anfield terrorised him and probably will have him again at home which could cost us . For a team as good as we are we cannot carry people anymore .
We're top of the league with the best defensive record so we're hardly carrying him.

As for Salah, he does that to everyone, let alone to a defender who has to cover the left back spot also because Cancelo, who is a great left midfielder, isn't much of a defender!

End of the day fella we all have our own opinions on what’s best for the club and that is the beauty of football .

I think Laporte is our best defensive threat to score and create goals outside of Cancelo. His goals won us the league in 2019, the Carabao last year. And he's solid for us.

Sadly he's got bogey teams.. Spurs is the obvious one.

But if you take that into consideration and augment him with another defensive presence against what he struggles.. he more than carries his weight.

Not like he was at at fault of any of the goals against us recently.

Just relax guys.. he's good.. okay he's not superstar like Dias but he's really good just like Stones!

He’s absolutely shot right now. Looks bolloxed tired and shot of confidence. Southampton twigged that channel is our weak link and as good as Laporte has been, historically his problems always come via that pass between him and left back with a runner behind him.

He 100% needs to pull himself from international duty to get his head right.

When Dias cones back it’s got to him and stones for rest of season as like someone earlier posted Laporte looks gone has no confidence either . Like to see more of ake

Sloppy moments from him just like the rest of the side, both of the centre backs struggled more than usual today because Southampton put on a very accomplished press and the options infront of them were very very limited, they can't play a pass if it's not on and it's ingrained in them not to panic and launch it so it ends up with us giving it away. It's too simple to blame the two centre backs for that when the main reason is the lack of options infront.

This applies to the entire defence but especially laporte, he needs to be moving the ball more quickly, they invite the press too much at times, I understand they're doing it to open spaces but when the press is catching you out they have to move the ball side to side quicker, shift the opposition and wait for the gaps to come instead of pausing on the ball, trying to force them and losing it.

Defensively they were fine, the problems at the back were largely from a complete lack of cover infront of them from Rodri and the lack of tracking from sterling of livramento.

Seems to be a weird building swarm wanting to make laporte the latest scapegoat. He's been off last few games, so have the entire team back to front, he's still been our best defender all season.

I don't get why people continue to suggest he's slow either, he might have a languid body movement at times but he's the quickest centre back we've got.

Wasn't anywhere near as poor as some are intent at making out. The own goal could have happened to anybody.
Even Dias was making mistakes before his injury - worrying dip in form or just the nature of the beast given their pivotal position, our high line and other team's approach to countering us?

It's all to do with this. Teams are crowding out our midfield and "forwards" and allowing our centre backs to have the ball which is why their pass stats are so high with Cancelo, Laporte and Dias (and Rodri) all in the top 5.

With 10 players marking 7 there is no room to play it forward so we pass it from side to side trying to generate space. Teams know that, sooner or later, with that amount of possession, either an intercepted forward pass or a single misjudged tackle will let them in. It can be effective but creates a false illusion that our defenders are more prone to mistakes than they actually are.

not enough attention given to opposition performance/tactics, imo, concentrating on what we did or didn't do without that attention is not "useful".The poor passing ( relatively) is often due to the pressure applied on our players by high-energy harrying and chasing.
