Knew he was going to be brilliant for us. What a temperament, especially as he's been played more as a sort of 8 for Porto and is adept further forward. The fact that he clearly ignores instinct in favohr of the plan is fantastic. Can see immediately that he takes Pep's instructions and follows them through on the pitch. Him and Godri together will be insane - when 1 pushes up, the other will sweep & dictate. Perfect.

Shades of Fernandinho before we bought him.
What an insanely good transfer that was for us though, and such an underrated player by the rest of the league and media.

Everyone keeps going on about Rodri I’m old enough to remember lake, Gascoigne, etc he may never be the same player again after a serious knee injury I hope I’m wrong but we have to keep it in the back of our minds Nico may be the number 1

True - add in the fact he also effectively contributed to his transfer fee to make the move. Absolute legend

ACL recovery has improved a lot over the years. Rodri will be fine.

You could see within the first ten minutes against Orient that he has what we've been missing in spades.

Literally no idea what the fuck people on here were seeing.

Can't wait to see him play alongside Rodri.

Shame he didn't come in the summer or 1st Jan because he hqied EXACTLY what we've been missing and should play every game he's fit for ... he ran a midfield against one of the top 3 midfield in the league this season in Newcastle

Huge display and no doubt can see him playing alongside Rodri next year, what a partnership they can have

Very impressive yesterday. Aligned with the times I’ve watched him for Porto.

Let’s see if he can produce against the big boys in the second leg.

Midfield base of him and Rodri next season will be very solid and allow the attacking players to attack and the full backs to bomb forward.

Excitement.

I agree . Tbh I thought gazza is one of the most gifted players I’ve ever seen and both him and lake were never the sane again .

Was always looking for the ball and did nothing flash but just simple passing and was an outlet all the time .

It works still help if Nico keeps playing well, so that Rodri doesn't have to play every single game as soon as he returns.
Besides, also thankfully pace wasn't his most important attribute, as the posts decrying how slow he is in his initial years can testify

Newcastle did make it a lot easier than it should have been but I always think the simple things are far better than the 'risky' things. It looked so simple yesterday. Will Omar ever score a more simple hat trick; could our midfield ever have a simpler 90mins, and our defence reverted to the tried, tested and trusted simple things.

Play both in the tough games and CL, play one against the weaker or mid table games, ensure they both and especially Rodri get a break a quarter or so of the games.
I hear what you’re saying but don’t think either will want to miss half of the games, or their share of

Early days but the thought of him and Rodri playing together next season is so exciting and whose better than Rodri to learn from for young player like him
