15 minute cities

I shop 5 minutes away, I bank online as the local branches were closed, I commute to work, before christmas I walked as my work was 15 minutes away, but I have reansfered by choice back to town so on a bus 15 minites away
My GP is 12 minites walk away, I drink on town as most of my drinking mates live all over Manchester so we meet centrally but am 10-15 minutes walk away from a few boozers, I have 4 parks in walking distance and the fallowfield loop, my parents are 20 minutes walk away

Bar work, football and holidays I never need to really travel any more than 20 minutes away and is probably the norm for most people, this is just more normal daily life being blown out of proportion by the cranks and conspiracy loons.

These 15 minute cities are not walled and you can freely visit anywhere else, all a fuss about fuck all really.

They absolutely can work, nobody in their right mind would want to travel any further than necessary. Trouble is so many places are run into the ground they need to invest in getting people back on to the high street feeling happy to shop local. Sadly our high streets up and down the country are a mausoleum to their decline and are now largely charity shops and bookies.

bar work everything this is is already there near me, shops, GPs Schools etc

in fact when all the factories were around here you could work, send your kids to school, bank, shop for all your needs, go to the pub visit libraries, swimming baths, parks the doctors etc all within 20 minutes walk away.

This isn't even a new concept it is how suburban areas of towns and cities were set up for centuries during industrial britain, to find it strange is abnormal as these conspiracy theorist are.
Absolutely. Everything you needed in Ladybarn with the rest delivered by T Seymour Mead in Withington or clothes from the Coop on Burnage Lane.

According to a friend who would know, this "druid" used to be a regular face on the fringes of environmental protests, against new roads, etc. Interesting to see how anti-vax/anti-lockdown shit seems to make strange bedfellows.

Well, I knew the Hairy Bikers had strong views on eating seasonally, but this really is an unexpected change of direction…

It is meant to reduce unnecessary travel but it’s not an assault on personal freedoms. It works in Holland in particular.
I believe it is very much an assault on personal freedoms and will get a lot more strict if imposed upon us. The UK is a little different to here as people are already used to congested roads and poor public transportation however it would be highly impractical here.
Would people have ID's with their particular zoned area? Would they be enforced? You'dvthink not but look at the whole Covid situation. Multiple people in multiple countries had their movements controlled and dictated to by governments ( in the interest of public safety) it's quite easy to see that argument used in the name of the environment and therefore public satefy

Looks like he needs to exchange his twelve knights of the round table for twelve steps.

This has brought some controversy to Oxford where various RW groups rook to the streets to protest against them

What are they

Conspiracy nuts do not like them

Simply put, the 15-minute city principle suggests you should have your daily needs – work, food, healthcare, education, culture and leisure – within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from where you live.

Has anybody got any thoughts on them?
I used to work 25 miles away from home, now it’s 4 so in that aspect I’m all for it, my life has become so much calmer and happier without spending 2 hours a day driving. I have Heaton park, Blackley woods, Bogert O’ Clough all on my doorstep and use all regularly. Not everyone is that fortunate so guess in some ways I’m lucky.

Even have a hospital a stones throw away but can’t ever get an appointment….

Who the fuck knows how the cunts that run the U.K. would implement it. All I can say is it seems to work well in Dutch cities without imposing personal restrictions on anybody.
