He was good in the second half when Gundogan sat deeper to hold his hand. Tragically shit in the first half when he had to sit on his own.

The fact that he constantly needs his hand held by a midfield partner is what holds us back going forward.
Gundogan didn't sit deep to hold Rodri's hand, he went to shake his hand and thank him making tackles, interceptions and working non stop to allow Gundogan the freedom to do the things that have earned him 48 votes to date. The fact that he has his hand shook is that fellow professionals appreciate how much his unpraised work is vital to the team.

Feel like we expect Rodri to play the role of 2 midfielders at once ! We also underestimate the amount of 2nd balls we have been winning thanks to his aerial ability in midfield. Remember 2 years ago every 2nd ball or even long ball would be a panic moment for the team. Issue is he needs a prime Yaya Toure like player with him and we don't have that obviously.
Your'e quite correct although I think many want him to play the roles of all midfields, save shots of our line and score the goals our forwards can't.

he was dog shit mate.

Gundogan seems to have finally got his groove and we’re seeing Dortmund tempo Gundogan for the first time in a long, long time.

Rodri literally does nothing to affect our opponents. He’s not covering, not pressing, not passing through them. We need to acknowledge fast we’ve bought very badly and offload.
"his hard work gave Gundogan more freedom", you completely miss the point the poster made. Have you never heard of a midfield partnership where one does the hard graft and the other benefiting from that has the freedom to be more expansive. You literally failed to see that and how it affected our opponents, claiming he didn't do a list of things, which clearly he did, or Gundogan couldn't have had the space he had.

The whole midfield is out of kilter. I feel on the whole KDB has been played too high this season. And with a double pivot, it sometimes feels as if the attack is to far off the midfield, narrowing options. Too many attackers standing in a line up front and not enough movement.

I would have more of a problem with Rodri if everything else was working and he was holding them up, but everything in out of whack.

Thought Rodri had a decent game today against Saints , ive been his biggest critic recently but fair play he broke up Southamptons midfield and their superstar Ward - Prowse never got a kick and stood up to dirty bastard Romelu very well , his hard work gave Gundogan more freedom.
Fair summary, although he was not secure enough on the ball in the early stages and Saints looked to be targeting him

90% of the time i would agree with you , but he did a job against Southampton and it allowed Gundogan freedom to roam and create , i also agree he isnt the answer to our defensive midfield position he has the turning circle of an oil tanker and not mobile enough for the Premier league ,but he would do OK back in La Liga

Got all the tools to be perfect in that role. Shedloads of pace is not a neccessity as has been proved by Messrs Busquets, Pirlo and Guardiola. But he still plays like he's surprised that the opposition are pressing him. As if he rocked up to a casual kick-about on a Sunday and can't work out why everyone else is taking it so seriously.
