Plodri, looks nice but Kane had the freedom of the park just dropping in 5 yards behind him and then having all the time in the world to turn, trundle forward with it and realise it when he wanted. At least Fern would have snapped back at him in his day.

Nice nudge off the ball to win it back high up the pitch in the second half, but nothing much otherwise.

We didn’t lose because of Rodri today.
We’re not winning because there are too many players at Rodri’s good-but-not-good-enough level.

Rodri, Mahrez is another, Sterling, Bernardo, sometimes Gundogan, sometimes Foden (he’s our golden boy but he’s been woeful about four times this season!).

The general level of this squad has declined alarmingly and Rodri is part of that problem. He’ll have good games, he does good things, but he’s not good enough.

Good performance. No idea why he is being criticised other than by those who had decided his fate before the game began. Won lots of ball, distributed well and retained possession when under heavy pressure.
It’s the things he doesn’t do that he’s poor at.

He doesn’t move the oppositions’ midfielders around to create space for our defenders to pass the ball into our attacking mids.

That was Fernandinho’s best asset; he never stopped moving and dragged players all over the shop to create space. If a pass isn’t on for him he just stands bolt still and allows their midfielders to block all of our central passing lanes. Also too often because there’s no pass on further forward, by standing still, he’s not in a position to receive a pass himself.

Also he doesn’t do anything damaging with the ball. Nothing. Everything is just okay.

He performed his role well enough. The same cannot be said of DeBruyne, Mahrez, Silva, Torres, Eddie in particular. I agree about the general standard declining completely. Just don’t think he was one of the main culprits today.

I’m astounded people see that as a good game. What did he do that was good today? He allowed that speedster of theirs upfront Kane to carry the ball from inside his own half to the edge of our box and lay it off perfectly for the second goal completely unchallenged, that’s all on him. Just to add insult to injury and then got ruthlessly exposed in the dying minutes when he literally just gave up chasing Kane who ran past him like he was an F1 car racing a moped.

His distribution stats are always high because his passing is nothing but backwards and sideways, if it’s not to the back 2 it’s a lofted ball to the fullbacks or it’s a 2 yard pass to a Bernardo or Kdb who has had to come and take it off his feet because he can’t find them in the areas they want to operate.

Every one of our back 4 are more progressive passers than our pivot. His passing maps have huge chasms in the middle of the pitch because he doesn’t play those forward balls, it’s always side to side in front of a 10 man wall.

And those sideways passes only happen when he’s on the ball, he seemingly prefers to stand behind opponents instead of opening up passing angles to receive the ball.

Fernandinho was a master of playing balls into our more advanced players and always making himself available for a pass, he does none of it.

There was a bigger issue today with peps tactics but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a huge problem.

He was alright and not our worst today... but if it’s essential that our goal keeper has to be able to pass the ball with purpose and through the lines it should absolutely be the same requirement for our central midfield pivot, except he can’t. He moves it side to side or backwards but he just can’t move the ball forwards, he can’t break the lines and he can’t do anything with pace, including run.

I think he could be made into a CB given his size but he’s not the answer for a DM in a side like ours.

Did you see him against Spain. He can do all the things you list. The question is why not for us?
