I don’t think he is underperforming, he is the same player he has always been. One of the few defensive midfielders in the world who need other midfielders to cover the ground for them.

Excellent player but doesnt have the forward threat that Dinho has , a prime Dinho was always capable of driving at the opposition similar to KDB , Rodri just hasnt got that in his game and we suffer at times because he will always looks for the safe pass. Every team needs a water carrier like Rodri, Barry , DeJong but Dinho could do everything , he is proving to be irreplaceable.

Yep. Fernandinho was outrageously good. Making Rodri look dogshit.

Dont think Rodri is dogshit but he does make you realise how lucky we have been to have a player like Dinho , a hard act to follow , in fact there isnt a player in the world as good as Dinho in his prime , maybe Kante at Chelski would give him a run for his money.

I thought the match tonight needed more dynamism in the DM role. We were slow in passing the ball from the kick off.
Cannot think of many forward balls passed from Rodri this evening.
He regularly faced his defenders on receiving the ball, then lazily passing it backwards or sometimes sideways.
He was getting more rattled as the game progressed. He could easily have been booked.
It was crying out for Fernie tonight as he will take a risk in passing forwards, whereas Rodri seldom does.
Unfortunately, tonight Bernardo also seemed subdued as he is often the provider of incisive, attacking balls.
But, the biggest disappointment tonight was several players underperforming, but Pep not bringing on any subs...

I’m a bit worried that he’s having a similar end of season dip in form to that which he had last season. Before the “winter break” he was arguably our most consistent performer up to that point of the season but ever since the Brentford game he’s looked a bit off the pace.

It can’t be a physical fatigue thing - the sports science guys would be all over that and he wouldn’t get in the team. Maybe he just can’t maintain for a whole season the mental intensity needed to play in such a pivotal position
