I think he was actually fairly decent given he was generally a one-man midfield for 60 or so minutes.
Given the circumstances, I'm inclined to agree with you. The inclusion of Alvarez rather than Kovacic increased Rodri's workload by at least 50%, and the booking effectively took him out of any serious challenges.
While it wasnt his fault, I still think it was his worst performance for us.

We are running him to the ground. It's our 2nd season without a proper DM back-up, and it's just not acceptable.

He was probably our best player in the 1st half. It's the other midfielders and attackers who were the problem today. Stones did well for the goal, but he was mostly lost in midfield today.

Blaming him is very difficult.

He was the only person in midfield for a long time.

If Liverpool got the ball, Stones went back to the back 4, and Kevin and Bernie were too far from Rodri.

All true. That being the case, Pep's tactics (and his delay in changes) were to blame.

Picking Alvarez over Kovacic almost certainly cost us two points today.

The onus on him to shield the back 4, dictate the speed of play and be a creator is just too big in games like today. The ones where we really miss Gundo taking up some of the flak.

We are really flogging the lad. Glad he's been able to get some rest in over the last 2 weeks but at times today late in the 1st half and early in the 2nd, he was on a hiding to nothing.
