16 | Rodri 2025/26

Absolutely. We can't afford to keep dropping points while we ease him back; and the likelihood of dropped points is high without him. He's surely ready for sixty minutes against Brighton.

What we really can't afford is another breakdown, half an hour max, we can then hopefully see how he looks playing 45 mins for Spain then maybe he's in a spot to start against the rags.

Brighton aren't as physically imposing as Spurs, Nico and Reijnders need to step up to the mark for me, if Tijani goes AWOL again at least we learn we need the extra body in there (2 of Kova,Bernardo,Rodri,Gundo,O'Reilly and Gonzalez) for the future.

He sustained a serious knee injury. As shit as it sounds, the risk of him breaking down will follow him for the rest of his career. It could be his next game, it could be two years down the line. We can ill-afford to play him sparingly this season when the whole team needs energising. He's our orchestrator, and I see no one else replicating him.

It's not so much the knee I'm worried about as the other niggles and setbacks that come from being out for so long. I agree we need to get him in the team ASAP to win anything this season but he deserves to be taken care of and eased back to full match fitness over a couple of months.

He'll probably be way off it for a few weeks anyway and no doubt be called finished on here lol.

Rodri deserves grace. He is a City legend and imo, the greatest holding midfielder in PL history. How Foden got the PFA player of the year ahead of him I’ll never know. I genuinely believe that Rodri hit levels in 2023and 2024 for club and country that hasn’t been reached by any midfielder in history except Xavi from around 2008-2012, like literally every game Rodri and Xavi played in that time, you could guarantee they would control the game, and if they lost it’s usually a smash and grab. no one wanted to play football against us, they literally could only win if they parked the bus. I hope he gets back to that level.

One of the best 6 in history, not just PL.

I doubt that a 6 has ever had as many league non-pen goals/assists as Rodri in 23/24, namely 17. For comparison, Busquets was nowhere near such numbers (5 GA). Iniesta, a brilliant AM, had 18 GA in his most productive LA Liga season.

To be fair, Busquets was arguably better in small spaces and at beating the press, but Rodri is superior both in purely defensive and attacking terms.

IF the 22-24 Rodri is back, City are back too.

Have to think he’s in the Spain squad with city’s blessing. Imagine we want him to play 20/30 mins to add to his fitness.

No issue with him playing for Spain but I do hope we send one of our physios over and have him on his own individual training plan. I firmly believe its the change in training that causes so many injuries on international duty compared to any normal week. Get him on his own individual training plan, decide beforehand how long he can play in a match and stick to it, no rinsing him.

Honestly I'm happy with this, he needs minutes and game time and a couple more before the Derby is perfect. Rodri is instrumental for us we need him fit and firing ASAP.

If he's going to break down then he's going to break down wether it's here or with Spain. He's a sensible guy and i'm pretty confident he knows what he's doing.

Looked an absolute class above everyone else today. If he hadn't been on the pitch I think we'd have lost by more.

Clearly only half fit, but our best player by an absolute mile.

Serves to demonstrate just how much our level has dropped over the past year.
For 1 half. He sucked in the 2nd. Especially late when the pressure was on. He should have been subbed out by Pep.

But Pep is in his error arc the last 18 months so no surprise there.

Great to see him back there, but i bet he is feeling the lack of quality around him more than anyone else

Should have been made the club captain

Great to see him back. We need to sign him up to a new deal quickly before he realises he might be playing for a midtable outfit….

Excellent in the first half, disappeared in the second along with the rest of the team.
