1894: Can you help with our Champions League display?

hi mate, thanks for the detailed response.

I completely understand about cost issues and printed banners especially costing a lot. i finished a graphic design/illustration degree last year and printing costs so much money. i just think you'd save yourself a lot of money if you painted banners more or used maybe a combination of both printed and painted ( the mike doyle one you did is the best one imo). you can get fabrics and paint for barely anything and you wouldnt have to rely on donations as much. I get that its difficult to find the time to create them as well. are there not studios/spaces you could just use for a day ? there are probably cheap places in manchester that would let you paint banners, its a bit ridiculous the club arent helping you more with that.

I mentioned other groups like Newcastle, huddersfield who create pretty cool displays. the one below being an example. just bits of paper i think and a banner.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DPlqmp_X4AAJ_4P.jpg:large . I think they have fundraiser nights to make money.
you could even just use ticker tape and balloons maybe for a display ? like the displays in Argentina. would be really cheap to do. or even just focus on doing displays just in block 115 ? you might think these ideas are a load of shite btw, which is fair enough.

im not trying to criticise. your the ones putting the effort in and organising things like singing sections, which i can only applaud you for. I see displays in europe or the other day at celtic and think we could create them and i want the etihad and the south stand to have amazing displays, player tifos and atmosphere. what you guys are doing is central to that. keep up the good work and i hope the basel display looks great !

Happy new year mate. :)

We appreciate all comments and ideas. You are right there are some great displays done all over Europe. We are held back quite a lot though with health and safety / security which is very strict in UK.

We do use a mix of painted and printed displays , we do virtually everything you mention above and more.

We have huge surfer banners, long drop down banners, telescopic flags, bin flags, mosaics, ticket tape, streamers, two stick flags.

You may see a display at Huddersfield or newcastle then see ours week in week out and think they are the same.. but we vary our displays more than any other group in the PL and have done 3 or 4 different player / manager tributes this season. On top of that the 1,500 bags of ticker tape and streamers for one game that no other club has done.

We do like the foil mosaics, but because fans come to the stadium last minute it means only 60% of the mosaic gets held up so the effect isn't good.

Large printed banners can be anything from 250 pounds to 1,000 pounds so as you can imagine it's all down to what we have in the kitty. We are self funded so often we use our own credit cards then hope the money is donated. Can't thank the generosity of fans from all over enough for the money donated.

I myself do most the hand painted banners although I can't put my name to the mike Doyle banner as this was done by a fantastic city fan artist which again is at cost for the many hours it took. Would love to do more of them. The banners I paint are the worded ones for example aguero tribute. These are around 10m long and take me about 10 hours to paint in sections at a time.

As well as the sewing help, we also need any graphic design help on Photoshop if possible and would like to know of any graffiti artists willing to donate time free of charge.

We are very excited about the Basel display, the work started 3 weeks ago and we still have more to do. The display has not been seen in UK before, our wonderful club should have the biggest and best ! We do need fans in seats early though in South stand lower level and to bring scarves to hold up.

We are always in need of help on match days etc so please do come and meet us some time as your ideas are good, we all want the same at the end of day as in a great atmosphere.

Would anyone know of anywhere banners could be painted e.g. a warehouse. In the past we've painted in a pub beer garden but this was sold for housing, anywhere with space to stretch out and to leave it to dry would be ideal. Any help putting out displays, creating displays, designs or help on a matchday is appreciated we're always milling around the back of 115 before kickoff or in the Townley or Corner Shop come and say hello
