19 | Ilkay Gundogan - 2024/25

He's playing more than I bet he and Pep thought he would. Rodri and Kev being out with long-term injuries has forced Pep's hand IMO.

Gundo is still fantastic, though. He offers something unique in terms of attacking the box late, that won't ever stop and because we're not a quick, transitional team it means he won't be affected by (lack of) pace to get into those areas.

He'll come good.
I agree, he is having to play a lot , not having kev or rodders is throwing him off a bit , he will be ok

Not in his best form now but I think he will be decisive in some big moments again.

Top scorer in 20/21, decided the title with the 2 goals vs Villa in 21/22, was hugely important in the final weeks in 22/23 and decided the final vs United.

Gundo has it in him to step up when it really matters.

I said in August he needs to play as a cdm he's the best replacement for Rodri, knows what Pep wants out of that role better than anyone else. Played as a sole DM the last 10 games of the 18/19 season, doesn't matter if his legs are gone now, if Pep puts Stones next to him that's good enough. Rico for me just doesn't do enough in the final third to justify the huge gaps he leaves in midfield, if Stones can stay fit that's our best Midfield pairing.

Good call

Doubt he was expecting to play every game and especially the minutes he’s getting. Think we would’ve seen a better Gundo if he didn’t play so much

you hear from a lot of great players - souness, neville, scholes where they say there comes a moment in their career when they know its over as younger players glide past them.

has that arrived for gundo?

Awful first half an hour from Gundogan. Touch off, passing range all over the show and his lack of mobility exposed.

I don’t think he was expecting to play as a regular starter, more as a squad player.

Hope he comes good, but it’s not looking great.
