Spanish eh?

What's his salary anyway?

So odd for this whole contract talk to be so widely reported when he just signed a long term contract only 6 months ago, can't even wait until summer apparentlly.

It would be a big shame, and waste, if we lost Alvarez. If Pep can get the best out of him and Haaland, we could be devastating next season. Alvarez must currently feel as much appreciated as a sausage surprise at a Muslim wedding. A real downer after the World Cup. Yet it’s a crucial time if he is to extend his contract for reasons other than money being thrown at him.

Would it be feasible to transition towards playing the two together regularly up top, plus one of Mahrez, Foden or Grealish? Assuming we let Gundo go at the end of the season, and that KDB’s fitness concerns continue, could we also transition Phil and/or Jack towards midfield roles? Add in Bernardo if he stays and there would be some rotation but without anyone being frozen out.

A major challenge for Pep but would this present a viable path forward? Or am I talking bollox, which wouldn’t be the first time?

It’ll be because his salary will be far too low following the World Cup he had. If he could earn triple/quadruple etc elsewhere, then we need to correct that asap, as there wouldn’t be much keeping him here if he is both paid below his worth AND doesn’t play. Clubs will already be speaking to his agent, so we need to convince him immediately to extend, as his game time won’t be increasing any time soon I don’t think. So the longer it goes on where he’s not getting regular football and there are other options on the table, the more likely it is he’d have his head turned. So I think the club are just trying to be proactive and stop that happening. We just need to hope we’re not too late.

Thought he was much better in the first half than in the second. I was really impressed with his one-touch distribution while dropping deep in the first half. Always works his tail off.

Great effort by him tonight except wasting two clear chances.
Liek any other striker he needs playing time, even Haaland struggled for a few games missing very clear chances. In the meantime, i think both he and Foden should be key players for the team, their effort on and off the ball is great.

Not his best showing but still made a nuisance of himself and contributed superbly to putting the ball in the net.

He'll always struggle to display his best, just like Jesus, while he is in and out of the team.

I expected better from the 7th best player on the planet to be honest
So if he had been voted 20th best you would be less disappointed? Come on, don't take these awards so seriously.

Apologies - it was my attempt at sarcasm !! I take absolutely zero notice of any individual football awards.

I think he has been good for us this season… actually did think he wasn’t that good last night. That miss after about 20/25 mins wasn’t pretty.

Been saying for ages now, to pair him and Haaland, and a poster told me it would be a 'liability'!

Some people have set players they think still perform miracles for the team and some of us see what new energy brings. JA is the latter and a snapshot (when not having an unlucky day) and positioning like the GOAT Sergio Aguero, which we need as Haaland gets marked out all the time, these days.

We need more options on the pitch.

He's tailor made for a second/deeper striker alongside a partner. While Haaland would thrive off having one too.

Need to make it work. We'd go from methodically predictable to completely bamboozling opponents I reckon.
