Theres a player there for sure. Young lad in a new league half the world away. Not expecting anything substantial from him this season.
I agree . There is no point in even getting into a discussion about him this season as he gone from Argentina to probably the best club in the world I mean what a massive step up . He looks quality and will be sone player in the near future .

Obviously it's too early to judge and he wasnt great yesterday however I reckon people have Aguero in their minds when they watch him, which is why he is already being written off by some.

We will never have an aguero again probably so let this guy have atleast some bedding in time to show us what Alvarez version 1 not Aguero version 2 can do.

He was crap yesterday, looked a bit rusty, but the comments saying he’s not good enough are ridiculous. We’ve already seen enough to know he’s a real talent and has a great attitude. The Leicester game was a tough one to come into because he was up against a very defensive team with three centre halves as a lone striker. He’ll get a couple more games at least before the World Cup and he’ll come good again.

He's been playing as false 9 against teams that only cared about defending, he's been constantly surrounded by two or three defenders, much taller than him, and it's not like the team has been playing particularly well these last few games. What did he do wrong so far? How many scoring chaces did he get? And please stop comparing him to Aguero or Tevez, when they arrived at MC they had already played in Europe for several years, this is Alvarez's first stint, and he's only 21 years old. Give this guy a break, come on!

But I think it is indeed fair to compare him with Jesus who followed an almost identical path to Manchester. I would put him a bit behind Gabriel together with less development potential. But hey it is early days and I do like his attitude and work ethic.

Young player going through peaks and troughs.

Started his career very well now hit a bit of a buffer, all part of the learning process, still think he looks a find, time will tell.

Play Foden next to him with both as double false 9s, probably a better way to manage the loss of Haaland.

Both can play off each other and are good at scoring and pressing, but not quite capable of being a focal point traditional 9.

Pep also recently called up Borges and Mebude to training, there could be something to going back to wide classical wingers who can send crosses in to 2 options who can play up top.

Even if they aren't used, I still think double false 9 is a good idea.

Timely second half for Julián. He could start doubting himself if things didn't go his way.

It's strange to see him so stale between the opposing center backs and barely touch the ball. In River he used to get a lot more involved in the buildup. I don't know if it's a Pep indication or him just not finding his place on the team yet. Hopefully he fixes that because when he gets the ball on his feet, he will deliver 99% of the time.
