Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

Sadly, Ben Arfa broke his leg in the challenge, but referee Martin Atkinson, close to the incident at the time, deemed the challenge fair and not worthy of punishment and after the game in an interview with a national radio station, Newcastle boss Chris Hughton admitted he felt there was no malice in De Jong’s actions.
Well done City for putting that factual summary in the article. Fingers crossed it might help Nigel avoid an undeserved ban.

I wish you'd seriously fuck off. I'm fed up of you spouting shit all the time you little ragtastic twat.

Assault? You want to try a night out in Rochdale then pal.

I see most of the videos has been pulled of from Youtube. Listen, i'm no rag and i wish City all the success in the world and i'm sure NDJ feel very very bad about the outcome. But at the same time it was a tackle that was completely out of order in my book and i'm with Ben Arfa on this one. http://vodpod.com/watch/4586660-de-jong ... abi-alonso

Yeah, the video's are disappearing alot quicker than they usually do. My opinion is that the FA want them cleared up before they say Atkinson's view was obscured. Well, i and i'm sure many other Blue's still have the match recorded on their sky box and i am more than happy to download the needed footage for the club if that is needed.

Secondly, De Jong won the ball. Nicky Butt at half time on ESPN said "The trailing leg can always wrap around an opponent because of momentum. It is very difficult to stop this when you go into a full blooded challenge." Or words to those similar effects.

Here is a far worse challenge from the weekend and i would like to know what you class this as! Attempted Murder?

Personally I think if Ben Arfa has any decency he will do the same and end this nonsensical wailing and hand wringing. If he doesn't and he allows this farce to continue my personal sympathy for him will fade quickly.

You expect Ben Arfa to come out and say what exactly? Has de Jong issued an apology yet? He is a thug and has proven that over and over again. He went out to hit Arfa early and did exactly - just watch his trailing leg. there was no remorse when Arfa was receiving oxygen and going off on a stretcher - compare that to Shawcross when he caused the exact same injury to Ramsay.

Here's hoping he doesn't bottle Boxing day at SJP!

There's a HUGE difference between Shawcross and De Jong, one won the ball and didn't commit a foul, one committed a foul and received a red card. Pretty simple really.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the severity of a tackle CAN'T be judged by the severity of the resultant injury. Henry's lunge on Gomez this weekend was far worse than De Jong's challenge, hence him getting a straight red card, yet Gomez walked away and eventually scored a goal that game. Ben Arfa was simply unlucky, he was hit by a hard but fair challenge, and his leg was unfortunately planted and in the exact wrong positon so as to cause maximum injury, a shame but not De Jong's fault. What remorse did you want him to show exactly? Wasn't it better to stay away and allow the paramedics/physio/doctor to do their best for Ben Arfa?

As for De Jong potentially bottling St James Park on Boxing Day, well, I can categorically state that WON'T happen. De Jong does NOT bottle it. Ever.

I can't really believe I'm having to defend De Jong to a guy whose team contacts one Joey Barton.......a thug who doesn't seem to care whether he's on the pitch or off it when it comes to assault.

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

This probably will not matter to those who want to hang Nige out but Van Bommel defends him. Now before you all jump and say Van Bommel is the same - I agree they are both fair hard men. Why has no one mentioned the amount of times De Jong has been fouled and never makes a fuss or that he also had a broken leg at Hamburg.

You'll look like a right gimp if he comes out and says there was nothing wrong with it and he has no hard feelings.

LOL!!

Actually, you raise a good point! If he's tackling with his weaker foot, the odds are he'd miss. Result? Ben Arfa comes away with the ball, so he's not done his job properly, or injury due to challenge with weaker foot.

If he tackles putting both feet together, it's deemed as a two footed challenge and he gets sent off.

So, a tackler is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

What's the point in tackling at all, then?

He could say 'it was a fair tackle, not sure what all you pricks are on about...' - that would be a start.

Nigel should apologise for what exactly? 'I am very sincerely sorry for a perfectly good tackle'? Bollocks.

And I think I can say with absolute certainty that he won't be bottling anything.

Your moral outrage is a bit rich when you have the premier league's leading convicted scumbag in your first team. We get rid of them, you worship them.

His trailing leg is bent at the knee, not studs showing. If he wanted to 'do' him, both legs would have been straight, studs showing.

It's a normal sliding tackle, happens 10 times a game and more on a Sunday morning, without incident. One leg straight, the other bent, exactly to avoid trying to injure the opponent. Anyone who's ever played knows that.

It's the pace of the tackle, and therefore De Jongs momentum that causes the injury. Bad luck, nothing else, unless you want to ask players to tackle in slow motion?

Re: De Jong injury to Ben Arfa

This thread has gone way too far, we should all now agree to dissagree, but just to show some element of ballance, for those who are ignorant of the fact, we have had four players (3 of them World Class) who have had their careers finished, not just interupted in the past 4 decades, by diabolical tackles.

So it seems like, as in all areas of the game, it's a case of lets all try to beat City with the big stick, when it involves anyone but City being on the recieving end.

Coincidentally, 3 of the 4 tackles in question were committed by Manchester United players, one of which was a criminal assault and should have seen Keane jailed.

So we more than most Clubs, have suffered more than our fair share of taking the shitty end, and if anyone can evidence a Club suffering any worse than we have in the past 40 years I'd love you to come back and show me.

Now STFU and get on with watching the game we all have passion for, we all, without exception feel sorry for the lad who got injured, but to try to justify the onslaught regarding De Jong is plain ridiculous.

All possible perceptions and views have been expressed in this thread and not one of them will change either the past or the future.
