It wasn’t his fault, I’ve seen every player at city with their hand up for offside and not chasing back as much as they should. Pep has clearly instructed him to stay forward in some situations. If he was the cause of as many goals which many blame him for, Pep would have benched him, no doubt about it.
Do you really think that Kyle would miss out on the opportunity for a race with someone.
Look at who is closest to Fernandes when the ball is played.
What does Walker do? Leaves him and puts his arm in the air, leaving Dias to chase him.
Walker is now behind the play, but not completely lost, so what next?
1) Sprint back into position?
2) Mark a runner?
3) Jog back with his arm in the air?
Ding ding ding…We have a winner! 3!!!
Now that Fernandes is gone, who is his closest man?
Rashford.
Does he…
1) Try to cover him?
2) Sprint to get goal side of him?
3) Jog back down the RB channel where there is no man and no threat?
Ding ding ding…We have a winner! 3. AGAIN!
He doesn’t chase Fernandes, whom he was closest to and then doesn’t cover Rashford, who is now his closest man and moving to join the attack.
Dias slides down the right channel to cover for Walker against Fernandes, but Walker does NOTHING to cover the third man, their fastest and most dangerous attacker Rashford, cutting inside to receive a pass, who then leathers a worldie into the top corner!
Walker was at fault at least TWICE on the same play for the goal!
Other than that, he did OK, but he’s depending on his pace to get him out of trouble and on two occasions it almost didn’t!!
1) The Rashford breakaway that he tried to head forward and didn’t,
2) The “foul” that led to our goal.
He’s writing cheques his body is barely able to cash atm, and others can’t always cover up for his defensive mistakes.
