KEY factor is that he has started playing good football, elsewhere from his beloved RCM position. As LCM he has been great during the past couple games and against Brighton he played good, for the first time as a False9

If he continues like that, then him and KDB in one team isn’t a problem and thus Bernardo has a future here as an unquestionable regular starter doesn’t matter who is injured or not

so club has motivation to raise his salary significantly and Bernardo has everything to stay

He seems to be more at peace with himself now. Witness the video a few months back of him and his gf walking their dog. Also, IIRC, he posed for photos with opposition fans in the city centre? Lockdown seemed to hit him hard at the time.

So, I can't see why Pep refuses to play like that in general, but anyway.. now Bernardo is great as LCM and as False9, just don't play him those shitty LW / RW positions and he can even deliver from DM..
