Honestly don't know what to make of all this. It looks like a shoe-in for Biden according to all the same people that were saying Trump wouldn't win last time. It's the same electorate though, and most commentators seemed to think that less than 10% of people are 'swing voters' who's votes were up for grabs, so I can see this going Trumps way. He seems to thrive on fear and division, and if anything there is more of that in america / the world than when he last won so I'd say the ground is fertile for a second term.
That’s a bit of a sloppy post there, and pretty frustrating after the hundreds of other posts walking through so much of the data available, both objectively and subjectively. It’s NOT “all the same people” saying the same thing as last time and it’s NOT “the same electorate” at all which the early voting data makes abundantly clear.

Well, apart from those that have died / reached voting age since last time it is the same electorate, and it seems to be largely the same sort of media voices calling it for Biden that were telling us Hillary was winning last time. I suppose we'll see.

The electorate is those who vote, not just those can vote. On that scale, we’re not talking remotely the same two groups. Motivations are entirely different this time around. And if anything, the punditry is more cautious this time because of what happened last, but the data is telling you Biden’s lead is larger and is different (in demographics and in geography) than Clinton’s.

To be fair, I thought you'd look at a better viewpoint than just a map. You're presenting an extreme straw man argument here.

The point is policies.

In 60+ years, in real terms, how much has actually changed for the Black and working class community? I'll answer for you; not too much if 'the great US democracy' worked so well it allowed someone like Pres Orange to occupy the White House.

Surely, for pete's sakes, SURELY that much is obvious?!!

Obama compromised in order not to be seen as 'uppity' and got fuck all for his moral victory. Bailed out rich companies and fuck over the little people leaving them with lectures as a leaving present. So, in steps the Orange Buffoon because people got disillusioned with the process and lives not improving.

You can show me all the maps in the world, but Dr King's message( in which the paragraph chosen is not confined by the hallmark of its time) is as relevant today as it was then. He held a deep dislike of incrementalism and 60 years later, people are being told "try again in 3.5 years"!

Liberals, "well meaning" or not, are the ones who hold progress back and there are fucking LOADS on here.
The text before the map was actually the key part there.

Absolutely, but the electoral college thing also throws in a another variable. I expect Trump will do as Bush Jr did and declare victory loudly through the likes of Fox as soon as he gets a decent result in one or two states and then ride the wave or portray it as a fake result/news as soon as things go Bidens way. No personal axe to grind btw, i think your politics are at the same place ours are headed with the two major partys being two cheeks of the same arse with the electorate choosing which wrapping they would like two identical packages.

Fair enough and you are right about the EC. I believe all of Trump’s actions over the last month are to draw out his base to prevent a rout so that he has some type of “legitimate” grounds to contest the outcome.

I don’t see the parties as quite as aligned as you do because I’m a centrist who lives in the most liberal part of the nation but spends a lot of time in farm country where the politics are very right wing socially. So maybe I feel the split more.

This is somewhat tongue in cheek, but I see the biggest differences between the US and UK politically as — first — that Europe sent all its Puritans here 400 years ago (thanks a lot), so you don’t have as many infecting your politics, and — second — that there was an historic divine division between the ruler and the ruled (ceremonial or otherwise) there whereas our rulers came from “regular folk” and “bootstrap pullers” (even though that wasn’t always or even often true) so that this rugged individualism thing tends to spit in the face of more communal/socialistic tendencies and politics, whereas the UK is a more unified “we the people” vs “them the rulers” deal.

I can totally see how some Brits look at Republicans and Democrats and say, “Yeah — both Tories.”

PS. Oh. And slavery. Half our economy was based on enslaving people. Did I mention that?
