Really sad to hear of his passing. He was a cracking player. Yes, he was hard to tackle but he was also skillful. He was also an honourable player. Absolutely no grubbiness or sportsmanship in his game.

Rugby League was part of my life when I lived on the M62 corridor - worked with a lad who was a Salford fan ( before the Reds bollocks ) and my ex-brother-in-law played for them. When I had a gap in the schedule I went to Oldham and Rochdale RLFC's and I always remember in the background if I was home on a Saturday as a kid the sound of Eddie Waring then Ray French's voices coming out of the telly.

You mind me asking who your ex brother in law is. I may know him.

I got to know a few players down the years as I would go A team and first team games. I would also see a few of them in the pub, often the night before the game :) Those were the days when we had charge hands, accountants, council workers and all sorts in the first team. Almost all were top blokes.

763 on this list - I seem to recall it was against Barrow that the injury ending career occurred - I think he may have made the odd 1st team appearance trying to make a comeback but last I heard he was a pub manager in Crewe

I know Steve well! He took over my old local, The Langworthy, for a while before moving down to Crewe.

Not heard anything about him for a few years.

Anyway, I'll be at Hull tomorrow cheering the Original Red Devils on!

If we make it 3 from 3, I'll be a happy lad!

small world eh? My sister Deb was his first wife - Steve read the eulogy at my mum's funeral too

The tackles players are getting sin binned for this season is ruining the game. There’s fuck all in them, most are just incidental contact and barely even a penalty.

The Pearce one last night didn’t even touch the head, he grabbed the top of his back.

Terrible officiating and it’s obviously come from above at the RFL… shite!
