2022 World Cup Discussion

Givens football fans unpredictable behaviour, banning alcohol isn’t the worst idea.
Not sure misbehaving over there will be a good idea, to be honest. You might find yourself getting a flogging. And I'm not on about some old dear in a corset tapping your bare arse a few times with a feather duster, while you're pleading "punish me mistress Mabel, I've been a bad boy". That's what my mate reckons takes place, anyway. Out there, it'll hurt!

Either that, or you'll get your head/hands/dick chopped off!

so they strung the beer decision out right until the eve of the tournament - its a shit show and an embarrassment for the game - it will become a shadow of itself as it will only be able to be passed around Europe - the Continent of America and a few select places in the Far East in future - nobody will go to watch sat in a steam cooker in a country which can have you arrested and spirited away in a heart beat. Blatter and Platini have sent the WC back to square one where it will need to be re-invented again

I’d like to see a World Cup in Australia if they’re carting around here, there and everywhere.

There was no real chance of it all kicking off in Qatar, but this decision should have been made ages ago, not on the eve of the tournament.

Having no alcohol kind of makes sense to me as it’s a manufactured tournament in manufactured conditions which will now have manufactured atmospheres too.

Hopefully, England can “Fight and Win”.

So Qatar has struck back against all the critisism and banned alcohol at the grounds.

Will FIFA learn from this disaster of a World Cup, I very much doubt it as money talks.
What a joke - and that version of 'footballs coming home’ mmm

The beer decision hasn't come about overnight. It was likely always on the cards. Just string the stupid infidels along, get the games, get the money, get the fans booked and then simply pull the rug out from under it.

I bet the TV coverage in some countries will be delighted when Budwiser etc reduce the amount of TV advertising - I suppose the clue at the tournament itself is they have no beer sponsors - plenty of Chinese companies though

Maybe they’ll make up for it by having all adverts in World Cup games being Budweiser in the US and the U.K.

I don’t really get why Budweiser sponsor these tournaments. They won’t get many extra long term drinkers of their beer as it’s shite.

Just about to choose between 3 wall charts. Size matters but colour and quality will also be reflected in my final decision . 02 sleeps To go. -;)

In a weeks time those posting that they are not watching any games will be on telling us who is shite.
I used to book time of work. None this year. I'll watch England/Wales and the big teams toward the end but only in the evening. And even then, I'm not arsed.

I think like with the CL you get Heineken flashed up around the edges of the pitches and in the intro and outro to the ad breaks so I suppose Budweiser feel duty bound to buy ads in that break as a sort of " hi guys we're still here if you fancy a beer" sort of thing. Not sure if it works as I never drink the shit

The political spin attempts on the ban are hilarious:-
"Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival"

"Host country authorities and Fifa will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans."

"There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero which will remain available at all Qatar's World Cup stadiums."

"The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev's understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022."

Budweiser's now deleted tweet summed up the situation perfectly:-
"Well, this is awkward"

Lots of 0% adverts too, no doubt.

Country that bribed their way to hosting world cup now trying to fix the outcome of said tournament. Is anyone shocked!

Shows how poor the organization actually is when 2 days before it starts, they about face on alcohol sales on the stadiums. Something that, you'd think, would have been sorted months ago or even a necessary requisite for clarity on, as part of the actual bid. Clearly someone took the money without even opening the bid dossier!

If they're looking for a fixer then PGMOL could probably help.
