The hypocrisy is about our government(s) selling billions of pounds worth of arms to Qatar. Qatar along with Abu Dhabi practically saved the uk banking sector during the financial crisis. The Qataris and other ME countries buy houses, office blocks and companies in London, and hardly a word is spoken about human rights.

Suffice to say, no mention of human rights, big mentions of bi-lateral trade and billions of dollars.
As for not giving sporting events to countries with laws different to our current laws, you may well be right. I’d just point out why other countries might think we’re a tad hypocritical.
Homosexuality was illegal in England in 1966, Argentina was a military dictatorship in 1978, China have had 2 Olympic Games, Russia World Cup in 2014.
