2022 World Cup Discussion

Actually I switched over and watched some of the closing stages and post match with Kate Abdo on Fox to get their pov and the pundit team of Alexi Lalas, Landon Donovan & I think Clint Dempsey were laying into the US coach big time for his second half tactics & the non appearance of Claudio Reyna’s lad, who they felt could’ve been a difference maker.

Honestly think it's one of the more open tournaments in years, with last gasp fairytale ending for Messi or fairy antics from pr87, the French losing some decent players and pogba, maybe a last hurrah from our Kev, or Nat to high five v van Gaal round the neck? Nice to see the edit of the England game making it seem that Stones conceded the pen!!! Usual shithouse baiting question to Jackie on the armband farrago, batted it back brilliantly!

Bit of a shame that there'll be 4 games a day from tomorrow, I suspect productivity could take a hit for the next month!

Ive enjoyed today. Englands game was great. Bit of a snooze for netherlands but USA v Wales was entertaining.

I don't see the stinking hypocrisy you mention.

The whole point for me is, you can't direct countries as to what laws they make, it's up to them.

BUT.... it's terrible that such a country with such evil and medieval laws wins it's bid to hold an event as massive as the World Cup (or Olympics). And opinions on this should be voiced before and during the event (as they are).
 
Shouldn't all the rules regarding armbands and kits have been finalised long before the tournament started?

12 years we’ve had time to say something of this, only now do the media tell you how to think while sat in the luxury of what backs have been built upon.

Outrage, outrage, everywhere, but not a soul to drink.

The hypocrisy is about our government(s) selling billions of pounds worth of arms to Qatar. Qatar along with Abu Dhabi practically saved the uk banking sector during the financial crisis. The Qataris and other ME countries buy houses, office blocks and companies in London, and hardly a word is spoken about human rights.

Suffice to say, no mention of human rights, big mentions of bi-lateral trade and billions of dollars.
As for not giving sporting events to countries with laws different to our current laws, you may well be right. I’d just point out why other countries might think we’re a tad hypocritical.
Homosexuality was illegal in England in 1966, Argentina was a military dictatorship in 1978, China have had 2 Olympic Games, Russia World Cup in 2014.

We all know its going to be Saudi Arabia 2030. Again moved to November to accomodate

So you want to refuse/knock back billions of pounds worth of contracts involving thousands of UK jobs and livelihoods (and probably let the French get it) because of their laws on homosexuality ?

How do you feel about buying Middle eastern oil ?
 
I'm not a fan of so many substitutes in the WC. It breaks up the rhythm of the game.

Also what's up with all that added time?
 
One good thing to come out of the Qatar World Cup is that every country now knows that once you've been awarded the tournament, you can just do whatever you want and FIFA can do nothing to stop you. The Netherlands pulled out of a bid because FIFA insisted on zero taxes. It turns out they should have agreed to it and then a week before the tournament, just change the rules and add a 100% tax on all of their revenue.
