Would love the option of peak Clichy in this squad. Most underrated player we have ever had?
He was pretty much a left-sided version of Walker. Awesome athlete, good defender but so-so in attack.

He was a great signing given his relatively low fee.

Utter bullshit. He was incredibly exciting when he joined. I get people don't like him now, as he does look shite, but the revisionism just isn't needed. In his first few games he grabbed loads of assists, bombed forward loads with pace and actually beat people. He was mega useful going forwards and actually had pace too. Injuries have ruined him but I'm so tired of all this nonsense about him always being crap. It's just bollocks.

I watched pretty much every game Monaco played the 2nd half of that season after we drew them in the CL, had a scout and they were such a good side to watch, so continued watching them. Mendy now is a pale shadow of that player, he wasn't the best defensively at Monaco but I thought he would learn with experience, but he was dynamic in attack quick, powerful running with a great whipped in cross, that led to numerous assists. He's just lost the pace and athleticism he once had, a real shame.

Completely agree. When Mendy showed up, pre-injury, he looked amazing. I thought he had a legitimate shot at becoming the best left back in the world. That's why it's all such a shame.
He played in FOUR games before he got injured

Bournemouth away where he was average
Liverpool at home where he looked good going forward but was a liability at the back
Watford away was a great performance by him but Watford were well beaten

Feyenord away was a decent performance

When we signed him he was seen as a good attacking full back who was a liability at the back

he had also had a couple of knee injuries before we got him

all in all he has been a disaster, as bad as Mangala

I just can’t believe we are here three years later and haven’t corrected that mistake , surely we should have signed a left back by now ?

The last excuse he's really got left is that he's not had a preseason to get his form up. That's it really. Even then you'd hope to see some signs of his left foot whipping in a cross, or a bit of dynamism to allow for the rustiness. But we've had nowt in these games so far. I feel for him as injuries can ruin a career unexpectedly, but he really is running on fumes now in the excuses tank. I've defended him absolutely loads but I'm struggling now.

Agreed. im not convinced he was ever a good defender but his delivery was superb. I still think back to Huddersfield at home (6-0?) when we went 3-5-2 and he was a revelation at wing back. I thought it was our formation going forward but then he got injured and it looks like he’s done.

Probably had 5 decent games for us. Not good enough, don't think he was good enough even before injuries. Need to get rid.

Had high hopes when he signed for us but he's been a terrible buy and he can't even do the basics right.
Also, he lacks a brain
