Yes there were some rumours going round about that.Yeah. Wasn't the rumour at the time that O'Neill got those tickets directly from someone in a senior admin role at City.

The story I had always heard was that it was from a red working in our ticket office who was sacked as a result. Certainly it was known about for a week or two before around Manchester that they were planning something in the north stand. I think the amount of regular ‘civilian’ punters willing to give them a few slaps and stand their ground came as a surprise to them, they couldn’t get out of there fast enough once it went offYeah. Tbf they fielded what was at the time the most expensive team ever assembled on that dayYes, it is a bit small-time. I’d be surprised if the Rags have a 5-0 thread over on Red Issue celebrating the anniversary of that 1994 game.
In 1989 United were shit and were NOWHERE NEAR the club they were looked upon to be in the decades after. United were an average club through the 70s and 80s who won the odd Cup and weren’t even the last Manchester club to win the league title. Both of us finished in the bottom half that season, in 13th and 14th level on 48 points. It’s like Wolves beating Palace 5-1 now. The rest of the league probably didn’t even look twice.
But it was a derby and for us on the day in the weeks after it was fucking mint!
I remember the Kippax in 85, hundreds of the knob ends in there as well, until it kicked off a few minutes after the game started. The story I had always heard was that it was from a red working in our ticket office who was sacked as a result. No, clearly not. It was a great win against our bitter rivals and undoubtedly memorable. It may be worth pointing out on milestone anniversaries. But doing the ritual every year seems a bit too much. Each to their own.
Hinchcliffe ! He's the left back remember !Early cross, chance at the far post, Hinchcliffe....that's just marvellous stuff
Immortal words from Clive Tyldesley
How old are you pal ?No, clearly not. It was a great win against our bitter rivals and undoubtedly memorable. It may be worth pointing out on milestone anniversaries. But doing the ritual every year seems a bit too much. Each to their own.
Is it fuck small time, growing up in Salford it was all us blues (3 in my year) at school had over them until the last derby at Maine Road! I was 5 years old when we beat them in 89' so had to wait 13 years to see us beat them bastards again!Yes, it is a bit small-time. I’d be surprised if the Rags have a 5-0 thread over on Red Issue celebrating the anniversary of that 1994 game.

Spot on.Is it fuck small time, growing up in Salford it was all us blues (3 in my year) at school had over them until the last derby at Maine Road! I was 5 years old when we beat them in 89' so had to wait 13 years to see us beat them bastards again!
It's a bit of fun mate and a chance to rub it in with the red mardarses. No, clearly not. It was a great win against our bitter rivals and undoubtedly memorable. It may be worth pointing out on milestone anniversaries. But doing the ritual every year seems a bit too much. Each to their own.
None of your business. How old are you pal ?
I didn’t mean it in a condescending or patronising way dude, i was just curiousNone of your business.
Like I said, each to their own. I'm sure they're really hurting about it when it crops up on a City forum. It's a bit of fun mate and a chance to rub it in with the red mardarses.
Fuck me have a sit down pal.
You’re getting confused with the 10-1The following game we played Plymouth midweek at Maine Road in the Cup and scored six, no?
The only one hurt here it seems is you!!Like I said, each to their own. I'm sure they're really hurting about it when it crops up on a City forum.
It'll always be (March 1970 onwards) my favourite and happiest home game I attended at MR.The only one hurt here it seems is you!!
I think I possibly enjoyed the last Maine Road derby a bit more on reflection. Maybe it was finishing the day singing songs about Gary Neville in The 4 in Hand that did it.It'll always be (March 1970 onwards) my favourite and happiest home game I attended at MR.
The fact others love it too is brilliant.
The score/date are used by me in various security bits on the www & in life in general, that way I get reminded of it daily.
I laugh at miserable people who can't enjoy a City win after the game is over, in this case I find it baffling.
That was certainly up there but the '89 game was the zenith for me maybe my age?I think I possibly enjoyed the last Maine Road derby a bit more on reflection. Maybe it was finishing the day singing songs about Gary Neville in The 4 in Hand that did it.
“He’s the greatest M****h bastard that the world has ever seen”
“Gary Neville, feed the goat and he will score”
“gary Neville is a blue, he feeds Goater” etc
I think the bit you don’t get if you weren’t there is the drama of the day. Kippax was mental an hour before kick off - the bit up against the rags was like a war zone and this just cranked the atmosphere into the red before it kicked off even. Then the fear returned as they battered us without scoring before it kicked off in the NS. After we got back onto the pitch the roller coaster started - there was a second of disbelief when we scored - literally a pause as nobody could believe it - cue bear pit - 3 minutes later I can finally breath 40 yards from where I started having lost all my mates - turn around to look at the pitch to see Lakey take a shot - saved then Tricky Trevor pokes it in - never in my life have I been part of such a release as when that second goal went in - the kippax shook - when I finally breathed again I felt like I was going to die of a heart attack - retreated to grandads corner near the NS where I found a mate just as Bish made it 3. Rest of match a blur but can remember being out clubbing and having a great night afterwards - I was 18.Like I said, each to their own. I'm sure they're really hurting about it when it crops up on a City forum.
