24 Hours In Police Custody

He’s being sued now, a personal injury claim? Originally it was against his car insurers which sounded unlikely, but now he’s got money I’m sure they’ll go after him directly.

Anyway that upcoming legal fight was what the money was supposedly for, but there’s no regulation, you’re just donating it to him and assuming he’ll use it on legal fees.
Give the money to his wife then, it’s not his they can’t have it.

Back in the 80s my mate’s dad caught a burglar in the house, battered him then called the police. When the police arrived the copper saw his bashed up face and said “what happened to him?” and his dad said “he fell over a wall when I chased him”. The copper just said “well he’d have fallen over a bigger fucking wall if it was my house” and that was the end of the matter.

It would happen like that now too should the same scenario play out, unless it was filmed, of course and then “reasonable force” will have been used.

Just don’t run them off the road on the next estate!

Made me sick watching this the other night. I fucking hate our judicial system.

I hope this guy receives every penny and rebuilds his life. The scum who burgled him, and forced him to put himself into this position? I hope they meet a fucking horrible death.

I'd suggest the victims of their previous crimes take out a counter claim against any monies they receive to compensate them for losses occurred.
Don’t think there’s a mechanism to do that. You can turn non-parties to proceedings into a party but I think there has be a factual nexus to the particulars of claim for that to happen. Can’t be sure though.

If they were found guilty of stealing my (ahem) Smiths & Morrissey collection valued at (for example and awaits the piss take) £5,000 but nothing was recovered because they'd sold it all and snorted the proceedings up their nose, and I then hear they have claimed a substantial amount of money I would be after them for my 5 grand plus more for stress and subsequent depression caused of not being able to play The Smiths on a daily basis....

I get that, and you’d probably win, but it would have to be a separate claim.

I used to live in south africa for a short time. You could shoot burglars there as long as you fired a warning shot first. People generally shot the intruder first, then the warning shot , difficult to prove which was first

You should be paying them to take it away. And getting a life.... priceless.

Old victims could wait until they win and go after the money, providing it was within six years and they hadn't already pursued a claim and failed.

We both deal with all kinds in society though, mate. Yours in you watering holes and ours via churches and our front door.

I don’t get involved in the religious side of things, but I often take people to their local pay point to put money on their gas and electric whilst using my aging knowledge of the benefit system to work out what they can apply for whilst their UC has been suspended, which it can be for minute reasons these days. There aren’t “targets” for DWP staff to achieve, but they are rewarded if they suspend a certain number per week.

There are less “scrotes” where we are now, but having lived in Gorton for 4 years, we got to know quite a few and they ranged from utter dicks who didn’t give a shit about anybody or anything to those that turned to crime to exist. We don’t have a magic wand, so all we can do is chat and listen to them and try to direct them to a more lawful existence. Our success rate will be nowhere near 100%, but every one we change helps, right?

A lot don’t seem to have a sense of purpose. If we could give them that, with a way to earn their way through life, feeling valued, we’d have a lot less crime.

How we do that, I don’t know, but there are examples where someone respected in the community steps up and becomes the role model for these people.
Agree to some point, but working in a prison, 4 out of every 5 who are being released openly tell you that they are going to spend their £86 discharge grant on drugs, then are going to commit more crime, to either get their drugs or come back to a comfy stay in prison.
Years ago there used to be rehabilitation courses and help to get people into work on release, but due to cut backs there is nothing like that now.
We used to joke in Reception on release “we will see you next week” but nowadays it’s a certainty that we will.
